Lace Makers

Almost all of my female relatives, who lived in Buckinghamshire, were lacemakers. Old and young alike.
Apparently, Bucks was quite famous for it's lace.
There is a photo in The library in Princes Risborough of Lacemakers outside my grandparents home. They are all sat in a row outside of their respective houses, obviously enjoying each others company.
I will have to get a copy of it.

we would enjoy that very much Steve. could that mean then that because i do needlework that my rellies could have been pretty much the same thing? like the Irish lace makers?

Hi Steve

What a lovey picture, Most lace is now machine made but in years gona by was hand made with bobbins wound with fine cotton and even gold thred worked in pairs around pins arranged on a 'cushion'. A piece of lace could have maybe fifty or more pairs of bobbins and took a great deal of skill and concentration to produce.
