Westmorland Puzzle

I've been looking up Daniel Westmorland born in Spalding in 1870. In 1881 he is put as son of Emma Westmorland 1850 Quadring as well as 2 other siblings Matilda Spalding 1868 and Edward Spalding 1866 as well as half-sister Ellen Bly 1881 Spalding. Emma seems to be daughter of John and Bathsheeba Westmorland and had 2 brothers Adam and John who both went to sea. Daniel also went to see and I think Edward too. If Daniel Matilda and Edward are Emma's children, why can't I find any of them together in 1881? Could they be brothers and sister instead? Bathsheba's husband disapears after 1841 even though Bathsheeba is not down as a widow till about 1881, she is down as agricultural workers wife and pauper, eventually ending up in the lunatic asylum where she died in 1901. Anyone find these Westmorlands in 1871?

Re: Westmorland Puzzle

Hi Duckweed

Looks like the aliens took them in 1871, unable to find any of them.

The only way to prove who Daniel's mother is by ordering his birth certificate.

I do see your problem, when I looked at them in 1881 I originally thought yes they are Emma's children. Then I thought would she really of had three children out of wedlock, as she married in 1880 to William Bry.
Now I am thinking they well maybe Bathsheba's children.
Perhaps Emma was in a better position to care for them.

Good luck
cheers

Re: Westmorland Puzzle

My only thought was that they were in the workhouse under initials rather than names.
