Just a little guidance please. Not 'strictly' my family history, but I am trying to help my wife find her birth parents/brothers.
She has all her adoption records, parents names and half brothers names, but no dates of birth for any of them.
Her birth cert. has her parents names of Sneddon((mother) nee. Cochrane) and fathers name Scott. But on doing a basic search in Scotland with no dob. was futile.
Place of birth for parents were Scotland, nothing else. She has registered with The National register for Adoptees.
Is there any other place she could go to.
Money is an issue, so any help would be grateful.
My dear wife is unaware of my search for her relatives, and she has settled for what she has. But I can tell she yearns for more.
I apologise in advance if this post is against the rules, and please withdraw it if it does break them.
Other than the national register the companies putting their services forward are fee based by what I found.
You could try searching for the half brothers. The National Library of Scotland have FAQ on how to trace living relatives.

As said, many illegitimate children were born due to delayed wedding plans or one of the parents was married. If the mother was single at the time of the birth and there was no prospects of marriage to the father, then she quite often would give the baby up for adoption, and before 1926 this would have been done informally, or passed the baby over to her parents and pretend that it was a late arrival to the real mothers 47 year old mother.
