Daniel Moran, Ireland/ Ayrshire

Hi Guys,
Needing a little help with this brick wall. My great grandfather x4 Daniel Moran born in Ireland around about 1791. He married a Helen Bryce also born in Ireland around 1800.
In the 1841 census they lived in Garrenhill, Muirkirk, Ayrshire. And the name was spelt Morn. Their children were Agnes, 20 Ireland, Catherine, 15 Ireland, Susan 10, Ireland. They also had my great grandmother x3 Margaret who i know married a Walter Hill in 1835,Muirkirk, Ayrshire ( Walter was also born in Ireland ). But, in the 1851 census Margaret was down as born in Kirkcudbright, she was born around 1820 before or just after Agnes. Margaret and Walter were living in Carluke, Lanarkshire at that time.
The surname has various spellings Moran, Morran, Morn and Morrian. I cannot find anything else on Daniel and Helen.
Not sure if this should have been posted in the Scottish roots section.
Cheers Iain

Iain, I'm not sure I can help you but I am a Morran (Moran) from Muirkirk and have a complete family tree for the individual who started my branch of the family (there are a few Daniels in the tree). The double r in the name was a mistake and my grandfather's birth cert has only one r in the name. I too have some documents that gave the name as Morn (back home we would pronounce our name quickly as Moarn). My great-great Grandfather Michael Moran came to Muirkirk in 1846/47 and I assumed he started the whole family of Morans (Morrans) in Muirkirk, so was a bit surprised and interested to hear of another earlier group. My father Michael Morran died last year aged 89 and was the last continuous Moran from that line to reside in Muirkirk, albeit I think there is a decendant from a female member of the tree.

Re: Daniel Moran, Ireland/ Ayrshire

Hi John,
The only info i have of Daniel Moran is what i posted. I have been in touch with a member of another forum and, he thinks that there was 2 families of that name and, they could have been connected but, again he had no details of my Daniel. Is it possible that you know which part of Ireland they came from. Can't find any trace of Daniel on 'Scotlandspeople'.I have Margarets family to the present day if it's of any use to you..
Cheers Iain

Exclamation Re: Michael Moran

Hi John,

I am a decendant of a Michael Morran fromMuirkirk. I wonder if it is the same Michael. I'm afraid I don't have a lot of information on him as I have kind of hit a brick wall but here is what I do know;

He married Mary Miller
They had a daughter Janet Miller Morran b about 1851 who married Alexander Ross 23 June 1871

Sound familiar to your Michael?

Ann
