Hi hurdon,

What pert of the country are you looking at?

If you do a google for Bydown House, quite a few places come up, mainly The village of SWYMBRIDGE (Swimbridge) is 4½. miles East South East of Barnstaple, link here.

Cheers,
Dave

Hi Dave: Thank you for responding to my quest in regards to Bydown House. I do appreciate it very much Bydown House was in our family for many generations. Penelope Bury who married Rev. John Russell was a relative in our family. I am very pleased to see the pictures of Swymbridge. In the Church stands a Nott Coat of Arms they are also part of the family. Thank you again Miss Pat Carson {Hurdon}

Re: a house called Bydown

Hi Hurdon! I would just like to say that I am currently living in Bydown House, Swimbridge! It is a glorious house! We have been living her for 14 years roughly. I am here with my wife and 2 kids! I would love to know your family history. I understand that Bydown was the home of many refugees during the war..?
Thanks

Re: a house called Bydown

Hello James,
Bydown was owned by my late Aunt Angela Pope and her two sisters. I have many happy memories of Bydown as a child. I remember a secret cupboard in one of the white wooden panels in a bedroom that my Grandmother hid her brandy in! I also had my Christening at Bydown.

Re: a house called Bydown

Hi Jameshw,

My name is Avi from Israel and I'm looking at Bydown house in google.
My father was a 15 years old refugee when he lived in Bydown house in 1939/40. We'r just talked this morning about the option to see if the house still exists, and (may be) the opportunity to visit there.

Do you have an update picture of the house ?

Avi
