Hi All....Just wanted to share my good news,,,,i never thought i would get to realise one of my "Things to do before you die",,which was to travel to Ireland. Being a working class lad,all my wages are spent by the end of the month and i have no savings,so to get to Ireland i would have to have won a few quid on the lottery or something
But,,,,when my brother died last year i met a cousin i hadnt seen or heard of before at the funeral {as you do} and i got talking to him. Hes a nice fella and i told him about my interest in family history. I decided to research his side of the family {his mum was my grandmas sister} and i presented him with what bits i had found. We share a great grandad in Ireland.
He was really pleased and has shown a great interest since in genealogy. I have only met him twice, and was due to meet up with him tomorrow to go and visit our G Grandads grave in Moston, which i had not found. He phoned me today to ask if i had a passport,,which i did,,only because i went to Spain on my honeymoon a few years ago,,never been abroad before or since. He then told me that we were going to Dublin on the 26th for a couple of days..i was flabbergasted,,i told him i couldnt really afford to travel.but he just said not to worry about that,,the flight was paid for,,,i am so excited,,i never thought i would get the chance to set foot in the Isle of so many of my ancestors,,i can hardly wait.i have no rellies from Dublin, but just to be in Ireland will be fantastic. I wonder if i will get the chance to visit the statue of my hero Phil Lynott of Thin Lizzy fame, which is on Harry Street in Dublin ..i do hope so !! cheers from a very happy Mancunian GB Mike.

I'd run out the green carpet for you GB, but I can't afford the train fare to Dublin.
Don't waste any money going to the Guiness factory museum. The only reason for going there, is the 'free' pint at the top of the exhibition and the view over Dublin.
If you're over my way, come in for a cuppa tea and a bicky.
A biscuit? Gee your lousy Steve If the man goes all that way the least you can do is get out the jaffa cakes and fig rolls... if there is any left Dont let him get away with it GB. If you turn up at his place hit him up for the good stuff
I've been to Ireland a couple of times by boat and never needed a passport. Is it different going by Air?
Never been to Dublin though. Been to beautiful Cork and amazing Armagh and Donegal. There is a great place called the American Park which is full of information on Irish emmigration.
Wherever you go it will be great as you always get a warm in Ireland.
Good for you GB, my only trip to Dublin was way back in the 70's - on business for my company, which was delayed because my boss would not let me go there when Ireland were playing Wales at Lansdowne Road - but the guinness they have is totally different to that over here, and I never drunk another one since then. Enjoy it.
