Thomas BLACKLEY junior

Hello,

I've been trying, without success so far, to find a birth reg if it exists for my great grandfather Thomas BLACKLEY. One of the problems is that the name has many variations in the records and there are other unrelated families in Lancashire with similar names.

Baptism record has been found but younger brother William was baptised the same day making it harder to decide when Thomas was born.

name: Thomas Blakeley
gender: Male
baptism/christening date: 05 Oct 1856
baptism/christening place: St. Peter's, Liverpool, Lancashire, England
birth date:
birthplace:
death date:
name note:
race:
father's name: Thomas Blakeley
father's birthplace:
father's age:
mother's name: Janet
mother's birthplace:
mother's age:
indexing project (batch) number: I02228-6
system origin: England-EASy
source film number: 1068940
reference number: item 8

name: William Blakeley
gender: Male
baptism/christening date: 05 Oct 1856
baptism/christening place: St. Peter, Liverpool, Lancashire, England
birth date:
birthplace:
death date:
name note:
race:
father's name: Thomas Blakeley
father's birthplace:
father's age:
mother's name: Janet
mother's birthplace:
mother's age:
indexing project (batch) number: I05002-9
system origin: England-EASy
source film number: 1656426
reference number: item 5 p 80

An indication of when the two were born comes from the 1861 census:

Quote:
1861
RG9 Piece: 2658 Folio: 15 Page: 30
Civil parish: Liverpool
RD: Liverpool
Sub-RD: St. Martin
94 New Hedley Street
Thomas Blackley head age 30 occ Iron moulder born Ireland
Janet wife age 30 born Scotland
John son age 8 born Scotland
Thomas son age 6 born Liverpool
William son age 4 born Liverpool

Isabella dau age 2 born Liverpool
Archibald son age 11wks born Liverpool
Although the name is different again, this is the most likely reg for William:

Births Mar 1856
BRAKELEY William Liverpool 8b 7

Looking for one for Thomas I found this one:

Births Mar 1854
Blekley Thomas W Derby 8b 357

I have a copy of that and it's not my Thomas which creates a problem. If all the census are correct and Thomas was born in Liverpool between 1853 and 1856 and before William then looking in RD Liverpool and W Derby does not produce a likely reg.

So either Thomas was the only one of five born in Liverpool without a birth reg or his birth was registered in some other RD. There are lots of possible ones if the Manchester area is considered.

Regards,

Dave

Re: Thomas BLACKLEY junior

Hello,

What is more likely?

1. Thomas was the only one of five not to have his birth registered?

2. Pob Liverpool as listed in census is an error although four siblings have reg in Liverpool RD.

3. He was born in Liverpool and birth was registered but record is missing from index or mistranscribed so badly it can't be recognised.

I don't wan't to end the search for the birth of my great grandfather without doing everything possible, even if that means tracing all likely ones with births in other parts of Lancs.

Regards,

Dave

Re: Thomas BLACKLEY junior

Looks as though this remains a brick wall.

I have ordered a copy of this one to see if it is his brother:

Births Mar 1856
BRAKELEY William Liverpool 8b 7

I have ordered a copy of this one despite the fact his death certificate does not list a marriage to Ann:

Marriages Jun 1875
BLAKELEY Thomas Manchester 8d 264
SMITH Ann Manchester 8d 264

Re: Thomas BLACKLEY junior

Just received both certificates.

Re: Thomas BLACKLEY junior

Hello Barbara,

Thanks. No mention of Ann on the death certificate and no sign of another marriage that fits so possibly they didn't marry.

I guess these two will remain mysteries. It's looking as though Thomas was the only one of 5 children with no birth reg in Lancashire. I now have copies of birth reg of all siblings born in Liverpool.

Regards,

Dave

Re: Thomas BLACKLEY junior

Hi Dave
Thanks for the help with Adam Bakeley. I have been following your post with a lot of interest. I have all the information you have on Thomas which I think I sent you last time.
I think the familys are connected, as Adams son William Henry Blakeley was also an iron moulder and his stepfather John Campbell was an ironmoulder.
The familys lived in Vauxhall area of Liverpool.
You may like to read about the iron foundry on line. "Vauxhall road iron foundry.
Liverpool and Merseyside History. Old mersey times."
If I find more I will let you know. I am also having problems finding B.M.D. On members of the family for that period
