Regimental name help

Okay located my great grandfathers (on my grandmothers side) WW1 record -

James Burman
Residence: Woodside Farm, Haydock
Document Year: 1915
Regimental Number: 8375
Regiment Name: W L D R E

Anyone any clue? I'm going to assume W L is West Lancs? He signed up at St Helens. On one page it has qualification driver written - don't know if this means he was a driver in the army or not.

Thanks in advance

Re: Regimental name help

Hello Katherna,

Here are the details of his medal card from "documentsonline".

http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/d...&resultcount=1

So now we've got two more letters! R. E. = Royal Engineers.

I'll see if I can find anything else!

Josie

Edit: I think this is the one...

Re: Regimental name help

Thanks guys

That was really quick! All I had was the initials of the regiment so was guessing about the regiment. I'll go check those links out now.

Re: Regimental name help

I can now understand why the recall point was Deganwy in N. Wales, and he was a driver!
