Scotland B/M/D certs.

Hi folks. I have no experience getting info from Scotland, so a little help please.

When applying for certs in Scotland, can I do it online, as per GRO in England.

Are they actual certs, or extracts of records.

How much does it cost.

Do I apply to http://www.gro-scotland.gov.uk/index.html

Or... http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/

Does anyone have experience of getting B/M/D's from Scotland.

Thanks.

Steve.

Re: Scotland B/M/D certs.

But very easy to go on Scotlandspeople.gov.uk and download the records for just over a £1 a time if you have enough info to find the right one. It is £7 for 30 credits and a search result is 1 credit, a record 5 credits. If you send for the certificates you get a hard copy of the same information for £12 -depends which you want.

Hi Steve

It looks as if FMP are adding Scottish census records. They have transcripts of 1941/51 already, but you still cant see the actual record

"Enough info" is certainly the key. I use SP on a spasmodic/regular basis but it's a very expensive site if you don't have precise info - too costly for random searches. Having said that, if you hit the right people - Bingo! the info on viewable images is as good as or better than obtaining a certificate on other sites.

Steve - where's that cert
I'm getting impatient, heaven knows what state your dearly beloved is in. Has your postman lost his way
Just hope it's a pointer to sorting things out when it does arrive

It does not matter how hard you try to get enough info by searching first before you spend any of your credits you will end up going through your credits very quickly. I do all my searches of the index with zero credits then when I have details of what I want I purchase the next batch of credits.

It takes time but you can get a lot of info even with zero credits. You can set it to 'Surnames that begin with' and you can build up a family name simply by running through the alphabet.
