Hi
I am a member of ancestry and am struggling to find relatives on the 1911 census. I am looking for Arthur Kitching, born 1866 in Hull, married to Gertrude, nee Witherwick. I have trawled through about 1000 pages of the 1911 census trying to find them to no avail. I have tried looking at 1901 census and using the info as to where they lived at that time but I cannot make any sense of how to make an accurate search as the info on 1901 census as to where they lived does not seem to tally up with the info required to search. I am starting to lose heart and can see hours upon hours of trawling through all of the different enumeration numbers for each sub-registration district. Any help on how to search more efficiently would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Abbie
Thanks so much, never even thought that Arthur and Gertrude would be living with Robert and Annetta (my great grandparents). Going to check it out now.
Hi Abbie
I notice you say Gertrude was nee Withernwick. On 1901 she is with her mother Jane Wilkinson. Is Withernwick where she was from?
What part of Hull were you from? I lived in Willerby.

Hi Dave
Gertrude's surname was Witherwick before she got married. Her mother, Jane nee Witherwick, had a number of illegitimate children. The father of all of the children, so I believe, was an Edward Wilkinson. He was Jane's neighbour and was married (Jane was very naughty!). When his wife died Jane and Edward eventually married but he did not live long afterwards, which is why Jane is Wilkinson on 1901 census.
My family live off Bricknell Avenue, near Cottingham, but I grew up living off Beverley Road.
