Re: Frain/Wilson Look up please

H Pettra
I found William Bolton's marriage to Ellen Collier - J/M 1877 Wigan ref 8c116, but I think you may have to get a birth cert of one of her Collier children for her previous one. I think she must have been married owing to the number of children named Collier. There is one which could fit, except that she would only be 13/14, which seems a bit young. This is William Collier to Ellen Preston Dec 1865 Wigan ref 8c 47. There is an Ellen Preston aged 9 living in Blackrod on the 1861 census.

Re: Frain/Wilson Look up please

Hi Dave,

I checked the births for William Collier 1869 and it came up with 3 possible results. One of those said...mothers maiden name "Collier".

I then checked Thomas Collier 1872 and that came up with the same result - maiden name "Collier".

I am sure that it would not have listed the maiden name if these children had been illegitimate.

So, we are left with the possibility that her maiden name could have been Collier and she married a Collier or is there another explaination that I am missing?

Re: Frain/Wilson Look up please

Hi Dave,

I have found a birth for an Ellen Collier in 1852 (Aspull) and it lists her mothers maiden name as being Jawson (at last, not a common name!!).

Could you possibly check the 1861census to see what that throws up please?

Thanks..

Re: Frain/Wilson Look up please

Dave,

Please ignore that last request....I think Jawson must be a misspelling...maybe of Dawson (unconfirmed as yet).

Hi Petra
I presume you got the birth details from Lancs BMD. I think the maiden name is the name a female was born with, and she could be single or married.
On 1871 census Ellen is down as Single and lodging with her son William in seperate roome, in the home of John Collier and his wife, children and mother Bridget. Also in the same house in seperate rooms is another son of Bridget, William aged 34. I wonder if he was the father and was Ellen from a different Collier family?

Hi Dave,
I am jumping back and forth.

Quick question.

If I ordered the wedding certificate for Hugh & Winifred, would it give me Hugh's
fathers name? I am stuck with Hugh in Ireland but his fathers name would be a start. Or, would I be able to get this information from Ancenstry?
