Converting from C of E to Roman Catholicism

Hi all,

I wasn't sure where to post this. My Grandfather and his family were all Church of England, but in order to marry my Irish, Catholic Grandmother, he had to convert. He is the only one in that side of the family to be Catholic, and as a result we (my family) are all Catholic now. So, would there be any records regarding his conversion prior to marrying my grandmother? I'm not sure exactly what is in the process of converting in such a short amount of time as I am a Catholic from birth and have become a 'full member of the Church' over many years, so don't know anything about conversions etc.

Any help on tracing his conversion and just general info on this would be much appreciated.

He may have been baptised again. I'm not sure about this as presumably he was baptised before. If he was baptised into the Catholic Church there would be a record, possibly record of his first communion.

Well, this would have been in the '50's possibly very early '60's. Would records from that recently be available about people who might possibly still be alive?

Hi Rai91,

for a protestant to become a catholic is a pretty straight forward affair to a certain extent , I am a convert the same way , 1st , you have to ask the local priest for his permission to join his congregation . 2nd you have to attend a series of lessons to learn about the history of the catholic religion and their teachings and beliefs.
3rd after completing the lessons you then have to ask the bishop of the diocese for his permission to join the catholic church , and he in turn apply's to the vatican curate of your diocese once he has this permission he then notifies you and your catholic priest that you can become a catholic .
4th the priest will then give you a baptism in the catholic faith , where you renounce the protestant church, then at a later date you will be confirmed and also take first holy communion , you are then a full member of the catholic faith ,there is a record kept at the local church , so if you know the parish your relative changed religion in just contact the priest of that diocese .
