Question One Man Two Women!

I found my GGG Grandparents in the 1851 Census living in Prescot. Trying to find their marriage date I thought I had it from BMD as James Donnelly and Mary Welsh married at St. Mary's in December 1843. However, I have been looking on Roots and come up with a James Donnelly Vol 20 Page 762 Mary
Welsh Vol 29 Page 762 and also a Mary Traverse Vol 20 Page 762
On Family Search, I found James Donnelly and Mary Welsh marrying at St.Mary's Prescot on November 13th 1843.
Has anyone any idea how I can possibly find out if it's Mary Traverse or Mary Welsh who is my GGG Gran? I would really appreciate any help at all on this one as I just seem to be getting nowhere fast

Re: One Man Two Women!

Hi Littlemo,

The 1851 census, is it the one with children Catherine, Mary and Michael?
as there is a visitor Nancy Welsh born Manchester with them. One of their childrens birth certificates will varify Marys maiden name.

Re: One Man Two Women!

Hi,

Looking at familysearch pilot site. A Mary Traverse married Henry Park on 13 Nov 1843 St Helens Lancs. The marriage index/image shows Prescott as the district.

Re: One Man Two Women!

Hello littlemo,

I agree with Julie that the matching couple is Mary Traverse and Henry Park. I notice on the index for Dec Q 1843 Prescot that there is a female (Mary Welsh) missing.

Regards,

Dave

Re: One Man Two Women!

1861 Mary has remarried
Mary Bramel 37 bn Rochdale
Lancelot Bramel 38 bn Ire,
Catherine DONELLY 16, Mary 12, Michael 10, Annie 8.
3 Bramel kiddies.
James must have been alive in 1852/3 circa to father Annie?

Re: One Man Two Women!

Many Thanks for all your replies to this Can anyone tell me how you can get such conflicting information?
For instance, julie, you came up with Henry Parkes and Mary Traverse on the 13th Nov. 1843, but yet I got James Donnelly marrying Mary Traverse on
Nov. 13th. I printed it off Family Search just to make sure.
But I think that with the info. from 1851 Census it does seem more likely that
Mary Welsh is my GGG Gran.Although her age in there must have been wrong,
as she died in Bolton in 1862 aged 41.
James had died in 1853 leaving Mary with 4 children aged 9, 5,3,and 6months.
In 1856, she married Lancelot Brannon and bore him 3 more children, and it seems as if she and the youngest child Thomas b 1860 both died in Bolton in
1862. The poor woman certainly didn't have an easy life. But now I'm sure I have the right Mary, I can now buy a copy of the marriage certificate and find out the name of Mary's father (Hopefully)
Thanks Again Guys,
Littlemo

Re: One Man Two Women!

Thanks a lot Dave, I really appreciate all your help. I shall now set off in search of the Welsh Family, see how many Red Herrings I find there.Still,
as the kids keep on saying, it keeps me out of mischief and they know where I am
Thanks again Guys

Re: One Man Two Women!

Hi Littlemo
If you look in Lancs BMD you will find the marriage for Lancelot as BRANNAN
to Mary Donnelly/Walsh.
Anc## has him as Launcelot.
Prescot R.O or Registrar attended which could be an R.C marriage 1856 jan-march qtr.
