Catherine Ann Morgan c1856/8

Hi all,

Catherine Ann Morgan (according to another tree) born Bretton, Flintshire, Wales.
Father - John Morgan c1816, Seaton, Cheshire.
Mother - Hannah Bellis c1825. Bretton, Flintshire.

Is there any shipping records of her entry to Australia. Looks like Sydney was the most likely arrival, as her spouse and family seemed to have settled in and around there.

I would guess arrival was about 1885 ish. She married in 1888 at St.Michaels Church, Sydney.

Working at the time for Sir Edward Strickland. (whoever that is. ).

Steve.

Yeah, that's him Beckie. I had a look up for him, when I posted this thread. Seemed rude not to.

Hi Steve,
Did Catherine Ann Morgan come to Australia on her own?
There is a record for:
December 1884 "Abergeldie" to Sydney
Catherine Morgan, age 16
Cheers,
Beckie

Re: Catherine Ann Morgan c1856/8

Hello Steve & Beckie,

The shipping record says that Catherine who arrived in Dec 1884 was from Meath, Ireland.

The only 1888 NSW marriage that fits is this one in Sydney:

2/1888 GRAHAM GEORGE MORGAN CATHERINE A SYDNEY

There is a St Michael's Cof E in Woollahra suburb of Sydney.

However, it seems according to one tree that the Catherine Ann MORGAN who married George GRAHAM was born in NSW to parents John MORGAN & Catherine FINNEMORE.

Birth 5015/1860 MORGAN CATHERINE A JOHN CATHERINE BATHURST

EDIT: It's possible the author of that tree couldn't find Catherine in shipping records and found one born in NSW to complete the tree. I know some are satisfied if the tree is complete regardless of its accuracy.

Regards,

Dave

Age seems a bit out Beckie, as she was 30 years old when she got married in 1888.
If she was 26 on that record, it would make a bit more sense.

Steve.

Re: Catherine Ann Morgan c1856/8

Hello Steve,

I can see 10 Catherine MORGANs in the shipping records to Qld., NSW & Vic. but none come anywhere near age 30 in 1888.

Regards,

Dave

Re: Catherine Ann Morgan c1856/8

Hello Steve,

Ok, that first tree was wrong. Another tree has the Catherine Ann MORGAN born 1860 Bathurst, NSW with this marriage:

5909/1892 HIGGINSON ERNEST MORGAN CATHERINE A OBERON

Oberon is not far from Bathurst.

Still no luck with the shipping record.

Regards,

Dave
