Red face The Other SANDS family

Hello crankypants,

I have two SANDS families connected by marriage to FURNERs. One was from Torryburn in Fife and the other from Llandough-juxta-Cowbridge in Glamorgan.

Quote:
Here/lieth the body of JOHN SANDS,/ He died the 8th of Sep 1784./ aged 94./ and/ ELIZABETH wife of the above./ She died the 29th of June 1795/ aged 81./ and likewise WILLIAM son of /WILLIAM and ANN SANDS of this/ parish and grand-son of the/ said JOHN and ELIZABETH SANDS/ who died the 28th Dec 1809/ aged 36./ Also the last said/ WILLIAM SANDS who died/ the 12th of Sept 1827/ aged 76./ and also CATHERINE wife/ of the last name WILLIAM/ SANDS who died Jan 3rd/ 1844, aged 72 years.
Ok, Catherine died in 1844. In what year did her spouse die?

Regards,

Dave

Re: The Other SANDS family

Hello crankypants,

Thanks. I'll look at the image if I can find it. Oh, Victoria and alone and unassisted.

He was born in Wales and was with the family in 1851:

Quote:
1851 Wales Census
HO107/2461/567/16
Corntown Farm, Ewenny, Glamorgan, Wales
John Sands, 50, Head, Farmer of 330 acres, Llandough, Glamorgan, Wales
Ellen Sands, 39, Wife, Cowbridge, Glamorgan, Wales
John Samuel Sands, 11, Son, Llandough, Glamorgan, Wales
Jane Sands, 9, Dau, Scholar at home, Llandough, Glamorgan, Wales
Llewelyn Sands, 6, Son, Scholar at home, Llandough, Glamorgan, Wales

so nothing unusual with him being away as a border or whatever.

His father John died 1880 in Gunning and his mother Ellen in 1878 in Gunning and buried in Old General Cemetery Goulburn:

Quote:
ID 639 SANDS Elleanor CE146 9 August 1878, 67y
Please see if you can find any more on John.

Thanks.

Regards,

Dave

Re: The Other SANDS family

Hello crankypants,

I've checked the NLA site. I can't see anything to help me with Frances GRUBB. I noticed Mrs Llewellyn SANDS is mentioned as a teacher. I noticed a disputed will and a very long court battle.

Regards,

Dave
