Re: S for STORRIER, SPACKMAN & SMITH

Hi Crankypants and Dave,
Hope you don't mind me crashing your thread, I noticed a few names that are in my tree along the way.... do you know anything about the following:

STORRIER - Julia Margeret married LYONS - John Joseph in 1897

John Joseph LYONS is the brother of my great grandmother Catherine (Katie) LYONS

Their father was Patrick LYONS and mother Anne/Anna Maria BRODERICK they had five children and she was his second wife.... some of the records are confusing as there were other children from the first marriage and some of the time she is listed as Anna/Ann/Anne so I am not sure if the first wife was an anne or not....... The date of marriage to Anna Maria Broderick was 1875 and this would be after the births of Thomas Valentine LYONS (?1869) and John Joseph LYONS (?1871)

Anna Maria BRODERICK is believed to have been born in USA (according to her obituary) her father was Michael BRODERICK of Laggan....

Do you have any info for any of these trees especially Patrick LYONS believed to come from Galway, Ireland and Anna Broderick and her father Micheal?

Thanks so much... I have just found out today my mother has clipping of both Anna Maria's obituary and some other peices of newspaper stuff for me to go through so I will keep an eye out for an info to help you.

Re: S for STORRIER, SPACKMAN & SMITH

Hello meaganbielski,

I'm sorry but I doubt I can help you much directly from my tree. I have nothing in it above John Joseph LYONS.

I do have a John BRODERICK from Galway who married Catherine NAUGHTON also from Galway, in 1852 in Goulburn.

It seems Patrick's marriages were these:

2226/1868 LYONS PATRICK NAUGHTON ANNE GOULBURN
2603/1875 LYONS PATRICK BRODERICK ANN MARIA GOULBURN

At the moment I don't know how either of those fit in with the NAUGHTON and BRODERICKs I already have.

I see these births:

10593/1869 LYONS THOMAS PATRICK ANNE GOULBURN
10164/1871 LYONS JOHN JOSEPH PATRICK ANNIE GOULBURN
10978/1873 LYONS UNNAMED PATRICK ANNE GOULBURN

11916/1876 LYONS PATRICK VINCENT PATRICK ANN MARIA GOULBURN
12983/1878 LYONS MICHAEL PATRICK ANNE M GOULBURN
9551/1881 LYONS JAMES PATRICK ANNA M GOULBURN
14390/1886 LYONS MICHAEL A PATRICK ANN M CROOKWELL

That is four not five after 1875.

Death #4304/1873 LYONS ANNE EDWARD N ANNE GOULBURN

If Patrick's first spouse died in 1873 then assuming the reg is correct Anne NAUGHTON's parents would be Edward & Anne.

The parents of the Catherine NAUGHTON who is in my tree are Edward & Bridget. I only have information that Catherine's sisters Mary and Bridget also came to Australia.

I've searched on-line and not much has turned up so far to add any more.

EDIT:

Found something at last.

Edward NAUGHTON marriage2 23 Aug 1843 Anne Mary BRODERICK

Anne Mary NAUGHTON b. 1845 married 1868 in St Peter & St Paul, Goulburn

Sorry I had the wrong death. This is the correct one:

1250/1910 LYONS ANNE M MICHAEL MARY A CROOKWELL

So Anne Maria's parents were Michael BRODERICK & Mary.

Regards,

Dave

Re: S for STORRIER, SPACKMAN & SMITH

Hello,

This does not add up. Well, not according the the math I use in my reality

Patrick LYONS b. abt 1796 Galway married Catherine BRODERICK b. abt 1801 Galway in Ireland, date unknown ??

Patrick arrived on the 'Norfolk' in 1832.
Catherine arrived on the 'Vocalist' in 1856 with children:
John b. 1835
Patrick b. 1841
Lawrence b. 1844

Addition:

The shipping record says Catherine was 38 in 1856 and she is listed under "Widows on Embarkation' with TWO children Patrick aged 15 and Lawrence aged 12 from Galway. The other LYONS on the vessel are listed under "Single males/females not members of family" and they were from Clare.

Regards,

Dave

Re: S for STORRIER, SPACKMAN & SMITH

Hi,
My mother has the death notice for Anna Maria she died from heart failure in 1910 I think, she was the second wife of Patrick LYONS, the children are named in the newspaper article as:

John Joseph (of Mcallister)
Patrick Vincent
James Andrew
William Lyons
Michael Augustine
Thomas Valentine
Catherine (Katie) is the fifth child of Anna Maria and Patrick - she is my great great grandmother and only died in the early 80's we think she was born in 1899/98 I would have to check to be sure. I cannot find her birth registered but I promise you she existed!!!

From the dates I can find and the article stating Anna Maria had five children this is what I have worked out:

Patrick Lyons m. Anne Lyons who died in 1873 in Goulburn

773/1867 LYONS PATRICK NAUGHTON ANNE SYDNEY
2226/1868 LYONS PATRICK NAUGHTON ANNE GOULBURN

This could be them in BDM....

Any way then Patrick LYONS m. Anna/Ann Lyons in 1875 in Goulburn

Thomas Valentine b. 1869
John Joseph b.1871

Seem to be Patrick and Anne's children

And the other's seem to fit in with Anna Maria and Patrick's children... all the dates fit.... and it matches all of the names mentioned in the obituary for Anna Maria in the paper.

Anna/Ann Maria's parents were Michael and Mary A BRODERICK and I think the obituary mentions her coming from America.... so I will double check it when I get my hands on the newpaper cuttings, so maybe she came with her parents and settled in the Goulburn area.

Patrick LYONS parents were Thomas and Catherine and he was from Galway, Ireland.

Hope you can make sense of all that!!!! I can see if there are dates of birth mentioned in the papers but there are dates missing.... there is talk of a place called Lyonsvale in Cottawalla not sure the relevance but maybe that was a name of the farm? There is also mention of Catherine (Katie) Lyons 21st.... will know more when I see my mum later this week.

I think your Patrick LYONS you mention was born to early if b. about 1796.

So, it may be that we are related through Patrick LYONS for you John Joseph and for me Catherine.... long long long lost cousins!!!
