Unfortunately not all the records survived. Great if you do get service records as it mentions next of kin and their address if married date and place of marriage wifes maiden name and children and year of birth as well as where she's living during war and of course soldiers previous army service and occupation at time of enlisting. Recently they have found that there are prisoner of war details and burial details in Switzerland (in red cross records) That would be an interesting resource to see.
Good find Ellie.....question for you peeps who may know...how come Ancestry alway get the records(nearly always)...and when they do...do they pay and who do they pay for the privelidge of dishing out info,i mean they are doing fairly well out of these records....thats not to say they dont do a good job...ime just wondering who holds the rights to the records.

Thats good Gibbo, how it should be....but someone must get a big sum of money from Ancestry surely.
Hi Lee i agree that is how it should be.
These people laid their lives on the line for their country and then someone makes money out of it .........its wrong.
If there paying for the privelidge....say the Anzacs fund or the British Legion i wouldnt mind....they do spend alot to get the records up to scratch, but it is a goldmine and i just wondered if and who they paid.
