HANSON and CROSSWELL Yorkshire

I'm looking for some help with the marriage of William HANSON and Elizabeth Baylis/Bayliss/Baylie CROSSWELL.
William was born 1847 Oughtibridge, nr Worley, E Riding, Yorkshire and Elizabeth was born c1863 Worcester. I think her birth is probably Dec Q 1862 Evesham, as Elizabeth Baylis CROSSSWELL - yes 3 s's.
The first child I can find is Gertrude, born Mar Q 1882 Oughtibridge.
William died 1894 and Elizabeth remarried Frank Holdsworth in 1896. I have details of children etc. but I just can't find the marriage of William HANSON and Elizabeth CROSSWELL.
Maybe they never married but I would love some extra help or suggestions.
I have seen that many spelling variations for CROSSWELL/CRESWELL that it may be impossible to find.
Kind regards,
Sashar

Re: HANSON and CROSSWELL Yorkshire

I've just realised I've made a mistake in my lst posting.
William HANSON had married a Sarah GREEN in 1880 Wortley, Yorkshire, then she died in May 1885.
So, my apologies, but the marriage of William HANSON to Elizabeth CROSSWELL has to be after the death of William's lst wife Sarah in May 1885.
Hope I haven't inconvenienced anyone too much

Sashar

Re: HANSON and CROSSWELL Yorkshire

Hi
Just a small point, Oughtibridge is in the district of Worltey, Sheffield in the West Riding of Yorkshire. A village just to the North West of Sheffield.

this is 1891 census. From your notes, I presume Gertrude is a daughter of William's 1st marriage. I presume Bessie is Elizabeth's daughter so the marriage if there was one could be about 1887.

Re: HANSON and CROSSWELL Yorkshire

Hi Dave,
Thanks for the mention of Oughtibridge being in the Sheffield dist of West Riding. I'm not really familiar with all these names.
You have the right family in the 1891 and 1901 Census and yes, Gertrude would be the child of William Hanson & Sarah Green, William's lst marriage.
Sarah HANSON died May 1885 so if a marriage occurred between William & Elizabeth it had to be from 1885.
Bessie was born to William & Elizabeth in 1888 but that of course doesn't mean a definate marriage occurred before Bessie's birth. However, a starting point.
Thanks for the Census,
Sashar

Re: HANSON and CROSSWELL Yorkshire

Hi Oznannie,
I did have the death of Sarah but I hadn't thought of looking on the 1881 Census for William & Sarah Ann.

I'm pretty sure you have the right people on the 1881 Census and now we have another child, Sarah E HANSON. I wonder what became of her as she wasn't with her father on the 1891 Census when he was with his 2nd wife Elizabeth.
William & Sarah had Gertrude b. 1882, and Gertrude is on the 1891 Census with William & Elizabeth.

Now you've opened another line of enquiry.
Thanks for finding this,
Sashar

Re: HANSON and CROSSWELL Yorkshire

Hi Sashar
As I said I wasn't sure if 1881 was your family, birthplaces as Bradfield, it was their residence as Oughty Bridge Bradfield that made me look twice also occupation.
RG11/4619/69/22

There's a Sarah E bn Oughtibridge a servant in London in 1901.
Not sure about 91.

Re: HANSON and CROSSWELL Yorkshire

Thanks Oznannie,
I see the Sarah E you found in 1901, she is the only one I can find that has something like Oughtibridge. Took me a while to find her as it has Bughly Bridge as place of birth on 1901 Census site, I guess that has been mistranscribed.
There are a few other Yorkshire Sarah's around the right age so still not sure but appreciate the lead

Thanks,
Sashar

Re: HANSON and CROSSWELL Yorkshire

You're Sasha.
Do you think she could be with her mother's family in 91, the Greens?
Perhaps mistranscibed??
Or maybe with one of the Hansons?
I've had no luck at all.
She doesn't appear to have died.
Was Levi Hanson her grandpa?
If so I may have a lead for her in 1911...
fingers crossed

Oznannie
