Jemima EVANS

Quote:
Jemima daughter of THOMAS and SARAH EVANS, Hocker Hill in the Parish of Tipton, STAFFORDSHIRE was born on the 24th January 1813 and baptized 24th March the same year.

There is an Eleanor Evans baptized in Tipton, 1 October 1815 dau of Thomas and Sarah

There is a Thos Evans in Northwood Street, Birmingham All Saints in 1841, aged 55, occupation Stock Lock(?). Also Elizh 45, Eliza 19 & Ann 15. None born in County

I think he's still there in 1851 as a proprietor of houses, but the handwriting for PoB is beyond me and the enumerator didn't bother including forenames other than the head of household.
I have not confirmed any of that.

Death reg has father as James and POB as Birmingham. Married in Aston in 1839 with one witness an Eleanor Evans. Marriage has father as Thomas with occupation given as Stock Taker so the above may be correct.

Re: Jemima EVANS

The Thomas you have found in 1851 who is a proprieter of houses was born in Birmingham. Written as Warwick Birm then a lower case m written above the line.

Not sure exactly what you are after. I'm presuming the marriage you refer to in 1839, Eleanor Evans as witness, is that of Jemima. Whose death are you referring to Thomas or Jemima?

Re: Jemima EVANS

I can find Edward and Jemima in Birminham in 1841. She is down as not born in County.

Best I can do I'm afraid. According to the details of her death they were in Australia by 1842 so nothing in any subsequent Censuses.

Re: Jemima EVANS

I saw that birth reg but as Emma wasn't with Jemima and Edward in 1841 I thought she might have been the product of another Farmer/Evans marriage. I can find several Emmas in the Birmingham area born c 1840 but all have parents called Farmer. No Emma who is out of place, so to speak.

Re: Jemima EVANS

Thanks Emeltee.

Yes, 1841 has Jemima not born in county.

But Emma is not with them in 1841 census. Arrival not yet found.

Re: Jemima EVANS

Thanks Geoff.

NSW baptism records very rarely give pob. I have several baptisms in NSW where I know the child was not born in NSW - eg. born vessel or born England.

Baptisms solemnized in Parish of St Lawrence Sydney 1842
No. 121
Baptised 24 July 1842 Born 15 May 1840
Emma - Edward & Jemima Farmer - Parramatta Street - Engineer
By W. H. Walsh

Bit of a mystery. Arrival should sort it but not yet found.

Edward was a brass finisher, not a marine engineer.

Re: Jemima EVANS

There is one more in 1841 in Aston I can't find on FS.

One is a iron and tin wire drawer (parents James & ?) and the other a metal roller (parents Isaac & Ann).

If Edward's (brass finisher) parents are Joseph Farmer & Ann/Hannah then I can't see either of those 2x Isaac being Edward's brother.
