Missing one Ann(e) Gleeson

Ann(e) Gleeson (21, Teacher) sailed in the "Dirigo" from Liverpool, Eng. on 28 November 1858, arriving at Melbourne on 28 March 1859 with her sister Kate, (19, housekeeper). They were both listed as Roman Catholics and both could read and write, and born in Ireland. They both went to James Conway of Nelson Road, Emerald Hill on 31 March 1859. James Conway had married their sister previously and had arrived in 1857, living in Kyneton, Victoria.

The only other news we have on Ann(e) is a Notice in "The Argus" February 1866 - Miss A Gleeson and Mrs Goring supposed to be resident near Beechworth, are requested to forward their address to John Deering, Argus Office, Collins Street, Melbourne. (John Deering being another brother in law and Mrs Goring possibly being Kate, the sister she travelled with, and who married in 1860)

I believe there might be several marriages for an Ann(e) on Ancestry (which I don't have). I wonder if someone could list these for me so I can systematically check out deaths.

Judy

Hi Jood

I dont have access to ancestry but have you tried family notices such as death notices for her sisters in Trove?

Re: Missing one Ann(e) Gleeson

I always use Trove, but whether I'd looked up the family notices which might mention her, I can't recall. I have got all the other information for that family except that one daughter Ann(e).

I'll do another check and get back to you.

Thanks Gibbo

Re: Missing one Ann(e) Gleeson

Still no luck. I know she arrived here in 1859 with her sister Kate, and that her brother in law put a notice in the Argus for her to contact him in 1866 - but after that I don't know what happened.

Re: Missing one Ann(e) Gleeson

Is this one a possible Judy?

Anne Gleeson
Spouse Name: Daniel Kinane
Marriage Place: Victoria
Registration Place: Victoria
Registration Year: 1869
Registration number: 533

the others seem to have other names like Mary Anne or Anne Alice.

Re: Missing one Ann(e) Gleeson

I didn't find any marriages for the sisters via the Vic. on-line index. You never know if you have a hit or a miss because names are often entered in a strange way, eg. Robert Edward might be robt edw. I tried kate and katherine and catherine and goring and deering and found nothing.

I can't find any trees for any of the sisters.
