Re: William John Pickett Bedford - Marriage.

The Caledonia was supposed to sail for Madras but was taken up by the government to sail back to Hobart Town.

https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/2181573
The Sydney Gazette and New South Wales Advertiser (NSW : 1803 - 1842) Thu 9 Jan 1823 Page 2
The Caledonia, Captain Carns is taken up by Government to convey His Honor the Judge Advocate on the Circuit to Van Diemen's Land. She is expected to sail about the 15th instant.
By the same opportunity the Rev. Mr. Bedford, and family, proceed to Hobart Town. This Gentleman comes out expressly to relieve the Rev. Mr. Knopwood.

So, still looking for arrival in Sydney.

The passenger list for the voyage from England to Hobart Town with convicts and guard did not include the Bedfords.

Re: William John Pickett Bedford - Marriage.

Edward, younger brother of William 1804, is still a mystery.

He arrived in Hobart with the family and then I have no idea ...

Quote:
Like his younger brother, Edward ... William was sent back to England for a university education ...
No baptism found for Edward. So Edward was also sent back to England. He may have remained there.

No departure from Tasmania for an Edward and the E. Bedford can't be him as it is 1851.

So 1841 census in England. No dob and no pob.

He probably had some middle names.

Re: William John Pickett Bedford - Marriage.

Perhaps Edward Bedford was another error in the Bio. with the portrait Dave.

I'll see what I can find for a younger brother for W.J.P. Bedford. I've searched already, but nothing came up.....I'll expand the years, and see.

(OH.!....would Edward Bedford, be the younger brother of W.J.P. Bedford(jnr.), ......Edward Henslowe Bedford....1842. Hobart.??.......perhaps that's the error. Confused with William senior & junior.)

I may well be getting crossed up myself.

Steve.

Re: William John Pickett Bedford - Marriage.

Says three children arrived in 1823 so I take it that Edward is the one we have no baptism for.

If it's an error then search again for the third child assuming it's not Edward.

Re: William John Pickett Bedford - Marriage.

Rule this one out as the known baptisms have mother as Eleanor Martha.

Charlotte Bedford
Gender Female
Christening Date 12 Nov 1816
Christening Place OLD CHURCH,SAINT PANCRAS,LONDON
Birth Date 20 Oct 1816
Father's Name William Bedford
Mother's Name Eleanor Anne

The only other one is this and being St Pancras probably same ruled out family.

Frances Bedford
Gender Female
Christening Date 14 Mar 1815
Christening Place OLD CHURCH,SAINT PANCRAS,LONDON
Birth Date 01 Nov 1814
Father's Name William Bedford
Mother's Name Ellenor

Can't decide either way with no baptism that fits for the third child.

I have not yet tried to trace daughter Eleanor Martha Pickard Bedford.

Oh. That could be the Alfred Stephen in my tree.

The witness ESV ? Bedford * Edward with middle names.

Someone probably heard ESP and wrote ESV.

Yes, I have that Stephen family in my tree but not a direct line.
