Re: smiths bury

As you say, fairly common names.

Can you give the children's names and ages if possible please, to help identify James

Re: smiths bury

Hi Glenys

thanks for the info. It confirms I have been looking at the right family and agree with the marriage Gortonboy has posted. We now know that he was a Mechanic and Margaret a Winder It looks as if they have cooked their ages a bit, probably to get over having parents permission

1901 - RG13-3861-35-14
James 55 Bury, Loom Mechanic
Margaret 54 Blackpool
Rebecca 23, whitaker 22, Ellen 19, james 18, Albert 13, Clarence 9

1891 - RG12-3369-44-14
James 45 Bury,
Margaret 43 Blackpool
Mary 23, Rebecca J 21, Richard 18, Whitaker 14, Ellen 10, James 8, Albert 4

1881 - RG11 -4151-97-20
James 33 Bury Engine fitter
Margaret 29 Blackpool
Mary Ann 12, Rebecca Jane 10, Richard 7, Whitakar 3, Daniel 1

1871 - RG10-4175-20-38
Alice 60
James 27 son Blackburn, Cotton Spinner
Margaret 22 Blackpool Winder
Mary Ann 2, Rebecca Jane 5m
John Wm Holding 16 G son, Israel Holding 14 G son - both Blackburn

1861 RG09-3097-97-41
Alice 50 Darwen Lancs
Ann 24 Blackburn, James 16 Blackburn
John Wm Holden, 6, Israel Holden 3

1851 - HO107-2259-387-51
Alice 41 Lr Darwen
Mary 18, Anne 15, James 7 - all Blackburn

?? 1841 - HO107-502-1/5-3
Alice 30 y, Mary 25 y, Martha 20 y, Barnet 15 y, Mary 9 y, Anne 5 y, Jeremiah 4 y, Alice ??Barnett?? 60 y. - all 15+ were weavers

So we know James's parents should be John and Alice, but can I find proof.
There is this one, but his occupation is a Husbandman (farmer renting his farm)

Lancashire, England, Marriages and Banns, 1754-1936

Name: John Smith

Event Date: 19 Jun 1831

Parish: Blackburn, Lancashire, England

Spouse: Alice Edleston
