help with Smiths

Hi

I am new to this site but have been researching my own tree for about 5 years now. I am totally stuck on the Smith Branch at my grandfather.

Any suggestions on where i could go to find more information.

He is James Smith
born 1918 in Partington, Cheshire.
from his marriage certificate his father is Thomas Smith.
I know that he had a brother Thomas Smith, but dont know year of birth or even whether older or younger than him.

I do have some world war two stuff on him that has his army 'number' on it and when he signed up etc and when he was released due ot being injured, but none of that gives me any info as to his parentage. Is there somewhere I can get army info from? I dont know any info about his mother, except i have a picture of her bizarrely, so i know what she looked like, but not her name. lol

I have looked on BMD, ancestry roots web etc but there are so many Jim Smiths that I dont know which is which or how to start sifting through them.

Any ideas on where i should look next would be great.

Thanks

Re: help with Smiths

Partington is/was in the hundred of Bucklow, so I would assume this to be James Smith birth reg.

Re: help with Smiths

something to consider, but there are some queries

Ellen Dearn married Charles L Davie o/d 1911 Bucklow 8a 322
Ellen Davie married Thomas Smith j/s 1918 Bucklow 8a 420

children to Davie/Dearn
Thomes E 1913
Hilda 1914
George L 1915

The James (b Mar 1818 Bucklow 8a 241) Steve has posted is the only James born 1918 in Bucklow
other children to Smith/Hunt
William Sep 1919 Bucklow 8a 272
Charles Dec 1921 Bucklow 8a 330

Re: help with Smiths

there is a tree which gives James's birth as 14 Dec 1918. If this is correct it would rule out the James and siblings born to a mother Hunt as he was born Mar qtr. This would answer one problem as then James could be Elllens child to Thomas, the birth record not being found yet

Do you have James birth cert. Who were the witnesses at his wedding. What was Thomas's occupation

It may be an idea to get the marriage cert of Thomas and Ellen
