On this day.

George Washington installed as the President of the United States of America.

I wonder what company did the installation.

Was he wired for sound, did he have running water.

Re: On this day.

on this day,

I painted the garage doors, repaired my bird table as it was ready to fall over, painted my aluminium patio furniture and finished preserving my shed and other woodwork
A busy day, topped off with a glass of port and lamb shank waiting for me when I decided enough was enough

Re: On this day.

On this day 100 years ago Emily Davison the woman suffragette was killed when she walked in front of the Kings horse on Derby Day.
It is thought that she only meant to try and put a scarfe on the horse...but misjudged the speed and was badly injured dying four days later.
Sadly the jockey who was only injured slightly was haunted by the event and he took his own life years later in his early fifties.

Edith New(also a teacher)from Swindon was heavily involved in the womans movement....she is one of my favourite Swindonians......sadly not a great deal is known of her later life except she stayed in teaching.

Back to Emily...she was buried in the family plot in Morpeth Northumberland...a long way from the hustle and bustle of London where she worked.

Emily,Edith and of course the more famous Pankhurst sisters did a great deal to get a fairer deal for woman....a hundred years today was really a pivotal moment for all woman in this country i reckon.
