Re: John Wilsdon c1838. Towersey, Bucks.

Hi Steve,

The only “Jno” Wilsdon I can find in Oxfordshire is this one...

Elizh Wilsdon 60 Ind
Jno Wilsdon 36 Carrier?
W Wilsdon 8

Address: Pilcock Street, Sub-District Deddington, RD Woodstock

HO107/889/Book 14/Folio 24/Page 40

He is probably not your chap because John and Henry are not with him!

The only death I can find on FreeBMD is of Amelia Weston in J/F/M of 1841 in Thame.

There is a note on FreeBMD about this entry...

#COMMENT Correction Reference 2008-05-2143 caused this entry to be added. Claimed Source was "FreeBMD Scan Image - Typed"

So if this is your Amelia, then where are the two little boys in 1841?

Had a search on FMP for John Wilsdon plus variants, born 1838 +/- 2. Out of the 13 pages of hits, just 4 John Wilsons showed up in Bucks, but none of these fit the bill! There were none in Oxfordshire!

Sorry – no positive results!

Josie

Don't know about you Josie, but FMP drives me crazy with its idea of what are variants - wish it would leave us free to just trawl as many pages as we like sometimes!
Steve do you have Amanda's maiden name? Perhaps the boys were with her family after her death and enumerator listed them under head of household's name?
Like Josie, I've tried for John but no luck

Yes, I know what you mean, Woody! It's the same with other sites too! Searches on A* annoy me no end! You type in a specific fact, eg Buckinghamshire and thousands of hits for every other county in the land show up!

Hi Steve and Woody,

On Family Search there a possible marriage in Kingsey, Bucks on 8th May 1834.

The groom was John Willesson and the bride Amelia Genstrip.

Just had a look for Genstrips in 1841, but none have showed up yet! I'll try to do some twiddling and I'll get back if I find anything!

Josie

Clever clogs.

Amelia Guntrip was baptised 1811. Aston Rowant, Oxfordshire. Parents are Joseph & Catherine(nee.Yates)Guntrip. Although it had been transcribed as Hemiah Guntrip.

She was married at Kingsey, Bucks/Oxfordshire..(it's one of 'those' border villages. ).

Methinks there are a few pages of the census missing for either KINGSEY or TOWERSEY, (I can't remember which one was in really bad condition). I looked through all of the 1841 census for those places, as well as Haddenham.

I can't find no concrete traces of children Henry or John after 1851.

Also, Rebecca(Allen) popped her clogs in 1868, and hubby went on to marry(Esther Jackson) for a third time, in the same year.

(1st side note: John Allen c1841/1844. Saunderton, adopted his stepfathers surname of Wilsdon, and went on to marry Elizabeth Frewin/Fruin in 1871. He gave his p.o.b as KINGSEY, until 1911, when his p.o.b changed to SAUNDERTON.).

(2nd Side note: If you don't like FMP, then sign up to one that you can use.)

Steve.

Re: John Wilsdon c1838. Towersey, Bucks.

Hi Steve,

Just found a family called Guntrip in Thame. Possibly Amelia's brother? With them is John, aged 2, who could be their son or nephew. There is no sign of Henry, though!

Class: HO107; Piece 881; Book: 4; Civil Parish: Chalgrove; County: Oxfordshire; Enumeration District: 2; Folio: 11; Page: 16

Just a thought!

Josie

Sorry Steve,

It’s 1841!

Ref HO107/Piece 881/Book 4/Folio 11/Page 16

Had a look for a death of Henry, but couldn’t find one.
