Countesthorpe, Leicestershire

My late mother was born in the above place and because I knew that, the date and the parents, I didn't get the birth certificate until recently. On the 1911 census her mother (still single at that time) was listed living in Foston Road, Countesthorpe so I assumed this would be on the certificate.

Lo! and behold it isn't, place of birth is listed as "Anderson's Yard"? I have tried to locate this with google maps and tried the history forum for Leicestershire Villages and have not found out anything.

This is more curiosity rather than an essential piece of the jigsaw so if anyone has any idea as to where this place was - which may no longer exist of course, I'd be very grateful.

Many thanks/diolch yn fawr.

Re: Countesthorpe, Leicestershire

Not an Andersons Yard but in 1911 there was a Martha Lord living in Anderson's Cottages, Countesthorpe. This seems to be along the Leicester Road.

Re: Countesthorpe, Leicestershire

Although not really connected, I've now been advised that the 'Leicestershire Villages' website is going to be shut down. Reasons are the usual, time and staff to maintain it. I have to admit that I did not get much further with my ancestors from that county with the questions I'd asked. Sad but predictable, it was maintained by the local authority.
