There are 4 likely ones in 1911 Geoff so he is either not there in the 1901 mistranscribed or hiding under another name! Two of them have initials but our Arthur doesn't seem to nor does the "Octavius Arthur"
And his soldier's effects say his mother was Mary. Doesn't give her last name.

Thanks, Barbara...
I would still be more happy to get his birth sorted first!

Well, thank you Simon, Barbara, Rupert and Geoff for all the work you've done in trying to discover the Arthur Richardson I am searching for. I do appreciate the time you have all given and I am still trying to get my head around it all.
I really have very little information to go on other than his date of death 17/01/18 in Palestine; taken from the original photo of his grave. I don't know the names of his parents. The army registers of soldiers effects, (sent by Barbara) for Arthur mentions his mother, named Mary.
I agree with Barbara. The Arthur in 1901 & 1911 appear to be different people. I say that because in 1911 the Arthur I am looking for is in barracks and I do know he was in the army before WW1. Or could he have been entered twice on the census?
I shall have to go with the birth registration that Geoff has found Arthur Richardson 1894 in Ampthill.
The only reason I say that is because I know of a Sarah Jane Richardson b. 1892 Ampthill who was related in some way to Arthur but I don't know how.
Can a search in 1901 for Sarah Jane be done to try to establish a link?
Thank you all again. In anticipation of finding Arthur.
There is a Sarah Jane Richardson marrying a Lewis James Brewer 1909, she doesn't name her father, which would be normally recorded. That said, one of the witnesses is Arthur Richardson, the other is an Edith something.
