BLACKLEY & variants

Hello,

I'm looking for the death of a Thomas BLACKLEY (my gg grandfather) born Ireland abt 1830 who died after the 1901 census.

Variants include BLAIKLEY, BLAKELEY, BLAKLEY, BRAKLEY, BRACKLEY, BLEKLEY...

There are these four deaths:

Deaths Sep 1902
BLAKLEY Thomas 78 Wigan 8c 67

Deaths Mar 1910
BLAKELEY Thomas 77 Wakefield 9c 10

Deaths Jun 1911
Blackley Thomas 78 Salford 8d 9
Blakeley Thomas 80 Bedford 3b 156

Please see if all four can be found in 1901. Thanks. I hope some of the above can be eliminated.

Regards,

Dave

Re: BLACKLEY & variants

Hi Dave,

I can find three out of the four - don't know where the one who died in Salford is.

The chap in Wigan is a Thomas Pearson Blakley living with nephew John Heatin in Ince in Makerfield Wigan. His birth county is NK.

The one in Bedford is retired from Commercial Trade and was born in Barking, Essex.

The one in Wakefield is a Shoe maker, repairer, dealer, has a wife Ann and was born Horbury, Yorks.

Hope this helps,

Emeltee

Re: BLACKLEY & variants

Hell emeltee,

I can't see either of them in the 1911 index.

This seems the only one that fits or did they both die in Scotland?

Deaths Mar 1904
Blakeley Ann Chorlton 8c 585

Probably Annie's 2nd marriage as well so I don't yet have her maiden name.

Regards,

Dave

Re: BLACKLEY & variants

I don't have access to any Scottish records , so can't help you there. However, the fact that they were in Lancashire in 1901 and you have deaths in Chorlton and Salford does look as though you may have found your couple. Sending for the certs would give you a better idea, perhaps.

Re: BLACKLEY & variants

Hello Emeltee,

I have some credits on SP so I will look but at least the Salford one has the name as Blackley. I'll add that one to my list and later decide on priority.

I'll also check how far away Salford and Chorlton RDs are from Barrow in Furness. I'm more familiar with area around Brede, E Sussex and the area south of Huddersfield, WRY.

Oh, that's Manchester. A long way away. Seems a bit odd since they lived in Barrow in Furness from at least 1881.

Regards,

Dave

Re: BLACKLEY & variants

You can rule out the Salford death as well. I've just found him in 1901 in the Salford Workhouse. He was born in Manchester.

Re: BLACKLEY & variants

Hello Emeltee,

Thank you very much. I won't have to take pot luck at GRO with any of those deaths. None were a good fit for place or age.

Still leaves me wondering what happened to Thomas and Ann.

I can't see them in 1911 index.

Regards,

Dave

Re: BLACKLEY & variants

Hello Emeltee,

1915 BLACKLEY THOMAS M 86 PAISLEY /RENFREW 573/01 1005

Found the death of my gg grandfather at last.

It says widower of Janet Neil - no mention of 2nd spouse Ann.

So I'd better make sure I have the right Thomas in 1881, 1891 and 1901.

Regards,

Dave

Re: BLACKLEY & variants

Glad youn found him at last. As I said before I can't help with things Scottish, but I do agree that you need to check the Scotland censuses to make sure that you have the correct Thomas.

Good luck,

Emeltee
