They just seem to automatically renew as it is their "pound of flesh". They want to make money. I deffo know I never got an email saying my sub was up for renewal.

Re: Ancestry

Small tip, NEVER auto renew with Ancestry, you will always get an offer within about 48 hrs. If you find it acceptable then sign up again.

Re: Ancestry

1903 & 1905 QLD Electoral Roll - Moreton - Normanby
PAMPLING Jonathan, Ashwood, farmer
PAMPLING Margaret, Ashwood, domestic duties
PAMPLING Jonathan Herbert, Ashwood, farmer
PAMPLING Albert John, Ashwood, farmer
PAMPLING Sarah Jane, Ashwood, domestic duties

They get it right for 1905 but for 1903 the Sub-division has been transcribed as North Pine. That happens to be the next one after Normanby in which the Pampling family reside.

How sloppy is that? What sort of excuse can they offer? They don't check and don't care how accurate the transcriptions are. How many extra hours have to be spent checking every one?

Re: Ancestry

Also many trees on Anc have names but the submitter has excluded the birthplaces. John Smith born 1850 but no birthplace yet his parents and grandparents are listed yet their birthplace are omitted. They should make at least a "country of birth" mandatory when filling in details.

Re: Ancestry

Got a link today saying IE 8,9 & 10 are not supported click here to find supported browsers - click on link - get blank page

Just what are they playing at

Mind you it infers that IE11 that I use is ok - although 'support' says my browser is at fault

Re: Ancestry

Reading all theses complaints makes you wonder why anyone ever subscribes to them for a second time. I can understand a first time subscription but if the site is that dreadful why renew? If you you know the site is bad but you renew your subscription it seems a bit out of order to whinge about it considering that that you must have been aware of these problems before signing up again.

Re: Ancestry

The problem is, unlike FMP where whatever record you look at you get to see the original even when your sub lapses, that doesn't happen with Ancestry. All you get is the transcription unless you download all the originals.
If I were to do that with the 6,000 people I have on my tree, that's a lot of downloads as most of my ancestors have 12 or more records attached I doubt I would have much memory left.

Re: Ancestry

Some years ago, you could view orginal records on Ancestree.....but that all changed. Everything now is geared to renewing your subs. You used to be able to contact other tree members, for an intial contact, but you need to renew subs in order to do that now.
Ancestree, is a shadow of it's former self, especially in the last 2-3 years or so.

So I guess it was a familiar 'friend', and now it's like that 'friend' has passed away.
But like an old friend, it's hard to give them up.....you live in hope they'll be back to their former self. I guess it's anger and frustration, over what it used to be, and now it's gone.

In all honesty, with what records there were on Ancestry, I'd almost reached the end to what is on offer. The Bucks records are of no ue to me, as I had already done all those, before they came online. Even then, they are transcripts, with no details, so it still meant that I would contact my FH society for those details.
FMP have some of what I need at present, and I have recieved a great deal of help with those, especally original records. But after 13 years with Ancestree, it's not an option to change over.
I just keep moaning and whinging on the Ancestree FB page, in hope they may improve things....but most fall on deaf ears, but some have changed.

I guess it's my age....I just like to moan.

Steve.

Re: Ancestry

Why isn't it an option to change after 13 years. It's not a contract for life. If you aren't happy with it there are others available and no-one seems to moan about them either.
