Possible: John HIGGINSON of 65th.

If by chance John was in the 65th here is a history of the regiment in NZ:

Wouldnt Brenda's birth cert. state father's occupation maybe. And have mother's name also.

Re: looking for Higginson family - Wellington

Yes.

I think I can explain the two deaths you found. One is the son born in Leicester and the father still in England until after 1861 died in 1887 in NZ.

There is a John HIGGINSON a Pay Sergeant in the 65th Regiment of Foot in NZ in 1850.

I'm not sure what is on a NZ birth certificate.

Re: looking for Higginson family - Wellington

No, I don't know for sure yet. So he returned to where he was born to die.

But the other John was not in NZ until after 1861 and his daughter Anna was born 1851 in England and married someone else.

The soldier of the 65th arrived well before 1850 so it would fit for Hannah's birth to be in Wellington around 1846. I believe the 1863 marriage you found was correct so I'd say Hannah had to be at least 16.

I know what fields are on a 2011 NZ birth certificate but I can't find anywhere what fields would be on say an 1850 one, assuming they were all filled in.

So when and where did the Sergeant of the 65th marry?

We have the death in 1859 of Helen aged 2 (daughter of a soldier) so I looked for HIGGINSON deaths 1856-1865:

1859/723 Higginson Ellen NR
1861/1122 Higginson William NR

So did John's spouse go with him to Ireland? it's not Alice Maud.

I've been looking for other siblings for Hannah & Brenda.

A Betsy Elizabeth HIGGINSON b. 14 Dec 1848 married 1868 in Auckland a Frank WOODWARD.

As well as a John there was a William HIGGINSON in NZ in mid 1800s.

Re: looking for Higginson family - Wellington

I have a 1886 NZ death cert. and it has parents names, birth etc on it.
I have no idea what a earlier birth cert. would have, i have never seen one.

Re: looking for Higginson family - Wellington

I don't know yet if this fits:

BURDETT - HIGGINSON
On 6 September 1864 at Onehunga, Capt. Sir Charles Burdett, Bart. to Betsey, eldest daughter of J Higginson.
