looking for Higginson family - Wellington

Hi

I am researching my friends family tree and have found her gt gt grandmother Hannah Higginson b 1850 in Wellington NZ. Hannah married Richard Tyner - don't know where as they appear to have travelled between England and India (think Richard was in the British army). In 1869 Hannah and Richard were in Carlisle Cumbria England and had a daughter Cecilia HAnnah Tyner but by 1874 they were in Lucknow India where they had a son Herbert George Tyner. By 1881 Hannah and her children were back living in LAncashire England but no sign of her husband Richard, in fact Hannah appears on all further census firstly as a widow and then she re married Joseph Bolton. The only reason I know that her maiden is Higginson is that when her daughter Cecilia was born her mother was named as HAnnah Tyner formerly Higginson. All the census returns in England state that she was born 1850 in Wellington NZ. I would be grateful for any help in tracing her birth

Re: looking for Higginson family - Wellington

I can find no birth for Hannah in New Zealand but found this marriage. Your Hannah would have been to young to marry in 1863 if she was born in 1850 tho and we dont even know if she married there neither.
Its the only Hannah i can find in any of the N.Z bmd.

1863/1302
Bride Hannah Higginson
Groom - no name stated

Re: looking for Higginson family - Wellington

According to his service record Richard was in NZ 1860-64 so it seems likely they married in NZ but 1850 seems unlikely for Hannah's birth year. The marriage that gibbo found is likely to be the right one. I can't see a birth in NZ or NSW for a Hannah/Anna HIGGINSON allowing that it could be several years before 1850.

Re: looking for Higginson family - Wellington

hi,,in the 1891 census,,,hannah is living with her niece and 2 nephews,,so i thought i would investigate that angle,,,,,the children were army births so i suspected that they were probably from the same regiment as Hannahs husband the 40th foot,,,i found the family in the 1881 census in Woolwich,,,,the mother was given as Bundy Johnson b1860 in NZ....If the children were nieces and nephews of Hannah,,,then they must be sisters,,,so i looked for a marriage of a Johnson and a higginson...and

Groom's Name:
William Johnson

Groom's Birth Date:
Groom's Birthplace:
Groom's Age:
Bride's Name:
Brenda Higginson
Bride's Birth Date:
1858
Bride's Birthplace:
Bride's Age:
16

Marriage Date:

08 Oct 1874

Marriage Place:

Lucknow, Bengal, India

Groom's Father's Name:

John Johnson

Groom's Mother's Name:

Bride's Father's Name:

John Higginson

so i think Bundy was a mistranscription,,although the original image looks like Bundy!! So i think you are looking for a John Higginson with 2 daughters called Hannah and Brenda ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,phew !!

I found a birth for Brenda, tho no parents were noted. Still no birth for Hannah and checked for a Anna just in case but none neither.

Re: looking for Higginson family - Wellington

Brenda married at a very young age but I still doubt Hannah was born in 1850 for that 1863 marriage. There are lots of HIGGINSONs in NZ but when did they arrive?

Possible: John HIGGINSON of 65th.

If by chance John was in the 65th here is a history of the regiment in NZ:
