Question When and where was this published

Quote:
Edward BAILEY, Henry GAVIN, Richard ACLAND, Stratford J POWELL, Francis BOURNE, John MOONEY, Thomas RUDDLE .... omnibus conductors charged with shouting out on Sunday, were severally fined 10s, with 5s costs of court.

It should be Sydney and 1860 - 1869 but I can't find where or when this was published.

Thanks,

Dave

Re: When and where was this published

Last ref to Stratford James POWELL is 1865.

1865 Sands, Sydney Directory
Powell, Stratford James, Castlereagh street

Not in 1866 Directory.

Can't find his death or that of Charlotte (last ref 1872).

Re: When and where was this published

No gibbo.

Real mystery.

You had to have a license to be a bus driver/conductor and the City of Sydney Archives might know the start and ends dates for that for Stratford and his brother Burton.

Re: When and where was this published

Empire (Sydney, NSW : 1850 - 1875) - Saturday 25 February 1865 p.2
WATER POLICE COURT.-FRIDAY.
(Before the Water Police Magistrate, with H. C. Burnell and Mr. M. Chapman.)
Catherine Flunn, of Foxlow-place, was charged with assaulting Charlotte Powell. Complainant stated that on Thursday week she spoke about defendant's child illusing hers, when defendant caught her by the hair, struck her twice on the head, dragged her down, and kicked her. Fined 20s. with 6s costs, or three days.

NB, Foxlow Place is the former name for Moore Street, which became Martin Place.

So it seems that both Catherine FLUNN and Charlotte POWELL had young children. I think Catherine FLUNN is a typo for FLYNN. Several FLYNN in Sands with addresses close to that part of the CBD .... Castlereagh St, Clarence Street, Market Lane.

NSW ER 1870 WEST SYDNEY I cannot find Stratford POWELL. But ....
(no first name listed .... an elusive blank instead POWELL, residence, Prince St.
Prince Street was resumed when Sydney Harbour Bridge was being constructed.

Re: When and where was this published

City of Sydney Assessment Books
William HAWTHORNE
12 Brougham Place in 1845
114 Castlereagh St in 1848
Castlereagh St in 1851, 1852
14 Willmott St, in 1861

Sands 1861 Commercial Sydney Directory
William HAWTHORNE, upholsterer, 14 Wilmott Street

I had the Maitland one but now it seems more likely it's the other.

William HAWTHORNE 22 husband of Eliza, upholsterer, arrival per 'Crescent' Feb 1840
