PERDRIAU family

Hello crankypants,

All in Australia as far as I know are descendants of Henry Carter.

Henry Carter PERDRIAU b. 5 Nov 1817 d. 21 Jan 1892 N Sydney

married 20 Feb 1845 ?

# V184959 87/1849 GB= Independent Congregational Pitt St Sydney, NSW

Ann Elizabeth SIMPSON b. 1824 Newry, Co Down d. 25 Feb 1918 Drummoyne

bu. St Johns CofE Cemetery Camden ? I wonder if that is correct? Perhaps she is buried with her father. We'll get to her parents and siblings soon.

Fourth son of Stephen - Arrived in 1837 ?
Mariner and steamboat proprietor -

1842 Henry Perdriau established a steam ferry service to the City of Sydney. The Balmain Ferry Fleet continued operating until 1882 when it was sold to the Balmain Steam Ferry Co.

The Balmain Steam Ferry Company was formed in 1882 under the leadership of Henry Perdriau (a rubber manufacturer and entrepreneur). The company was challenged, however, when in 1892 the Balmain New Ferry Company was formed to offer more competitive fares for passengers (one penny instead of three pence). The Balmain New Ferry Company bought out the Balmain Steam Ferry Company in 1900.

Retired in 1880
Mayor of Balmain 1868, 1872 & 1875
Lived in 'Bleak House' Balmain

Buried in Presbyterian Section 2B Rookwood Cemetery Grave 5675

Henry Carter Perdriau
Died January 21 1892
Ann Eliza relict of the late Henry Carter
who fell on sleep February 25 1918 in her 94th year.

New lettering was added to the granite obelisk and I'll get to that when we do the children.

Please see what you can find. Thanks.

Regards,

Dave

Re: PERDRIAU family

Hello crankypants,

This is long but it makes more sense if I keep the children all together. We did some under "S" but didn't sort out the daughter Sarah puzzle previously. I've only found the marriage to Joseph HUNT today.

Ebenezer SIMPSON b. abt 1796 Newry or 1798 Dublin ? d. 1855 Camden

married 1816 First Presbyterian Church, Newry

Sarah CLARKE b. 1793 or 1798 ?? Ireland d. 7 May 1878 Waverley

Arrival on the 'Parland' to Sydney 3 Oct 1838
Ebenezer 40 currier and wife 39 and Alexander 21 currier and Sarah 17 ?

What about the other children?
William Henry (bef 1858 )
Edward ?
Ann Elizabeth (bef 1846 )
Sarah Clarke ?
Ebenezer (bef 1854 )

"Ebenezer and his wife arrived in NSW from Londonderry on Wednesday 3 Oct 1838 having sailed in the ship PARLAND, Captain Tait, on 8 Jun 1838 [?] with 295 [?] emigrants under the supervision of Dr Ross."

That is not totally accurate according to information on The Ships List site.

Children:

i. Alexander A c. 11 Apr 1816 Newry d. 1903 Casino

married 1840 Sydney

Rebecca Jane McCAMMON b. 1821 Ireland d. 1912 Casino

Quote:
1903 N.S.W Electoral Roll – Richmond - Casino
SIMPSON Alexander, Casino, gentleman
SIMPSON Rebecca, Casino, domestic duties

ii. William Henry c. 6 Oct 1817 Newry d. 1922 Waverley ?? &&&

married 1857 Camden

Ann Taylor WALKER b. ? d. 1895 Sydney

Quote:
1903 N.S.W Electoral Roll – Wentworth - Bronte
SIMPSON Annie Taylor, 100 Leichhardt-street, domestic duties
SIMPSON William Henry, Leichhardt-street, merchant
SIMPSON William Walker, Leichardt-street, merchant
Quote:
N.S.W Justices of the Peace 1914
SIMPSON William Henry, Abbotsford, Leichhardt-street, Waverley
Date of Appointment 2nd Aug 1883
Quote:
1891-1922 N.S.W Sands Directory
SIMPSON W. H., J.P., “Abbotsford” 100 Leichhardt st, Waverley

iii. Edward b. 1819 Newry d. ?

iv. Sarah b. abt 1821 ?? d. ?

vi. Sarah Clarke c. 26 Nov 1830 Newry d. ?

There is either one or two but one did come to Australia. The other children were all baptised within a month or so so it's very curious if there is only one that she would have been baptised at age 9.

Sarah Clarke b. 1821 d. 4 Oct 1887 Balmain ??

married 1839 JB= Presbyterian Sydney, St Andrew's Scots Church

V18393236 74A/1839 HUNT JOSEPH SIMPSON SARAH C
V1839468 75/1839 HUNT JOSEPH SIMPSON SARAH C

Joseph Hedding HUNT b. 1816 Middlesex ? d. 3 Sep 1870 Balmain

Death # 2144/1887 HUNT SARAH AGE 66 YEARS DIED BALMAIN BALMAIN

vii. Ebenezer b. 1828-1831 Newry or NSW ?? d. 1890 Braidwood ? d. 1886 Camden ?

married 1853 Ashfield

Janet BUCHAN b. ? d. ?

Quote:

Please see what you can find. Thanks.

Dave

Hello crankypants,

I did edit it and then revert to the original. I didn't want you going off on a tangent so I decided to do it in one go.

You can see that one tree I found is not that accurate.

Re: PERDRIAU family

Hello crankypants,

Thank you very much. I was wondering if the other children somehow arrived later. It's a bit odd that some have their middle names but Sarah does not. A Sarah C did arrive so I presume the 1821 birth and the 1830 baptism are for the same Sarah ?? I was wondering if the age at death was wrong but the age on shipping record also points to a 1821 birth.

The information about Ebenezer's birth date and place is a puzzle. I had 1796 Newry and the other site 1798 Dublin. Age at death and age on shipping record give different dates of birth.

Regards,

Dave

Hi Dave

RE: Joseph Hedding HUNT b. 1816 Middlesex ? d. 3 Sep 1870 Balmain

No birth/baptism indexed for Joseph HUNT.

I don't think the L.M.A is complete, hopefully there will be a birth/baptism update soon.

Possibly Joseph's parents.
