Re: Samuel WASHBURN & Ann SCOTT

I looked at one of the 2 records for John and it says he received his pardon on 1 July 1845 and that he was a widower at time of sentence. No mention of him using the alias Washburn on that record. Also no mention of age.

Daughter of Ann McCASH (nee SCOTT) is Mary Ann McCASH who married William HARRIS (convict) - we have looked at them just going back one more generation to 2 more convicts.

Thanks Geoff.

I wonder what date the muster was.

Re: Samuel WASHBURN & Ann SCOTT

Apart from 1846 on the typed record, it must be at least 1844; I rechecked the image and one chap had died, July 1844...

Incedentally, John received a free pardon on that muster..

Re: Samuel WASHBURN & Ann SCOTT

John 5 10 1/4 age 42 ploughman Life - Upper Canada - New York State

If the muster was after those departure dates then we can rule out John leaving Tasmania using alias Washburn. There is nothing actually in the records in Tasmanian Archives that indicate John used the alias Washburn.

I think we can say Samuel and Ann arrived in Port Albert and then no trace.

I will now look for Samuel's records in the archives. Pardon 8 Jul 1845.

Re: Samuel WASHBURN & Ann SCOTT

This looks like the same muster for Samuel Washburn, so the muster would have to be between 1844 - 1846. If the Trove clipping is correct then 1845 looks good.

Samuel Washburn
Arrival Date: 1840
Vessel: Buffalo
Province: Tasmania
Title: Ledger Returns S - Z
Year(s): 1846
Place of Conviction: Canada

There is this, but the image gives nothing up

Ann Scott
Arrival Date: 1838
Vessel: Nautilus

Title: Ledger Returns S - Z
Year(s): 1846
Place of Conviction: Edinburgh

1846 must have been a catch up year for musters
