Re: McLUCKIE children

Hi. My first post.

I am the great granddaughter of William Marnane and Bessie McLuckie. I believe one of her sisters also lived in Atherton, married to a Ledlie.
They had four boys. Maurice -1894, John, Robert and Malcolm and brought the boys up RC. If they had had girls they would have been raised Presbyterian.
Maurice William my grandfather married Margaret Isabel Linedale. (Jack,Blackley)
My father is also Maurice Marnane, the eldest of four and only boy. I am 5th out of 6 of his children.
I cant figure out what is going on with the Morpeth Marnanes.

Re: McLUCKIE children

Hello and to the Forum.

Jeanie McLuckie is my great grandmother. I'm also connected to Blackley and Linedale connects to Jack and back to same Blackley family.

I've followed this line as well just to make my tree more complete.

Marriage 1894/B17007 Ledlie John - McLuckie Annie

The Brisbane Courier (Qld. : 1864 - 1933) - Saturday 22 September 1894 p.4
MARRIAGE
LEDLIE - McLUCKIE.-On the 12th September, at St. Paul's Presbyterian Church, Brisbane, by the Rev. J. F. McSwaine, John Ledlie, of Herberton, to Annie, third daughter of the late Alexander McLuckie, Glasglow.

I have traced most of the family but there are errors in some of the material on-line and in published form and still some gaps in my tree.

Dave

The Morpeth bit is very recent and still work to do re the early years.

Death 5 Aug 1934/C02563 Marnane William - William Marnane - Mary Doherty

I don't have a copy so don't know who the informant was.

What are the chances of 2x William married to a Mary Doherty?

So where is the death of this William born 1848 Morpeth?

Can he be traced after 1869? Did he marry in NSW?

Mr. William Marnane, 90, who died at
Cairns last week, was one of North
Queensland's greatest pioneers. Born
at Morpeth, he went to North Queens
land in 1872
and shipped the first load
of horses ever to reach Cooktown. He
was one of the first on the Palmer
River rush, established a store at the
Tait diggings, and also a pack horse train
to supply the fields. He blazed trails
all over, the North,

Four sons survive — three of them in N.S.W.

That does not add up. One is a bank manager in Victoria and the other three are in Atherton.

Don't know why it would appear in that paper.

Trying to fill the gap 1869 to 1872 to 1884 to his rather late marriage.

Re: McLUCKIE children

Ages at death don't fit either baptism record.

Roman Catholic Baptisms in the Parish of East Maitland in the County of Northumberland 1848
William - William Marnane & Mary Doherty Abode: Morpeth Quality or Profession: Storekeeper When Born: 19th December 1848 When Baptised: 23rd December 1848 By whom the Ceremony was performed: Revd. P. Magennis RC Minister

Roman Catholic Baptisms in the Parish of East Maitland in the County of Northumberland 1854
John - William Marnane & Mary Dogherty Abode: Morpeth Quality or Profession: Publican When Born: 15th Octr. 1854 When Baptised: 1st November By whom the Ceremony was performed: Revd. John Tierney RC Minister

I can't find anything in Trove actually dated between 1869 and 1893 that proves beyond doubt the William born Morpeth 1848 is the one who married in Cairns in 1893.

Earliest found so far in Qld. is the wedding notice.
