Can't see him in 1851..

He married in 1845 in NSW, could be at sea, I'll check vessels..

Elizabeth BECK was born in NSW and married in NSW in 1854 - error in the index - I have a copy of the marriage certificate - and the family is leaving England in 1860. Perhaps Robert was born in England. I can't find a reg in Australia. So Hugh was back in England in 1861.

Yes, error in index.

Masters Certificate in London Dec 1851 so you are right, he could be at sea 1851 census.
