BUTLER CHARLES 15574/1914 JAMES – SUSANNAH – CAMDEN

Camden News – Thu 5 Nov 1914
CHARLES BUTLER, aetat 60.
Quite a gloom was cast over Camden yesterday (Wednesday) by the sudden passing away of Mr. Charles Butler, at the age of 60 years. The deceased gentleman was man of robust health, and even on Tuesday was at work at his daily avocation. A man whose merit, honesty of purpose and integrity is honoured by his many friends; for he was that. Respected by us all. From his youth upwards he devoted his talents to farming pursuits; born at Westbrook, son of the late Mr. James Butler; some few years ago he established (the first in Camden) a livery establishment, of which he remained the senior partner. "In Thy Hands my Times are." Mrs. Butler survives her husband. The funeral takes place this day (Thursday), at 3 o'clock, at St. John's Cemetery.

BUTLER LUCY 10184/1937 KENNETH – SARAH – CAMDEN

Camden News – Thur 6 May 1937 - Death of Mrs. Lucy Butler.

At the age of 79 years Mrs. Lucy Butler, widow of the late Charles Butler, passed away at her daughter's residence, Mrs. J. Peat, Menangle Rd. Camden, on Wednesday morning, the 5th inst. The deceased lady had so long been identified with Camden, always an active worker, thinking of others, helping local charities and devoting her days in striving to do her part to aid the community, that there is scarcely a person in our midst who did not look upon her as a personal friend, and held her in the highest esteem. Born in this district her long life was ever given in usefulness. In her younger days there was no more ardent worker than Mrs. Butler for the advancement of the District Hospital and when age prevented this active work the hospital authorities gave her distinction and honour by electing her as a life member of the institution. The hospital is not the only local cause of charity in which her interests were devoted; the district is richer by her life and blessed by her efforts. Mrs. Butler was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth McLennan, of Mount Hunter, in which locality she was born, and 59 years ago married the late Charles Butler of Camden. There was a large family of twelve sons and daughters, eight of whom survive and are all well known locally. Two of her sons, Messrs. Arthur (Narrabeen) and Cecil (Leeton) are returned soldiers, both serving in the Great War, but in addition Arthur also saw service in the South African Boer War. Other surviving sons, Messrs. Percy, Charles and Leicester, are residents of Camden. The daughters are: Amy, Mrs.F. Lewins (Abbotsford), Stella, Mrs.C. Derriman (Balmain) ; Annie, (Mrs.J. Peat (Camden). There it’s a brother and a sister of deceased still living, they are Mr. A. McLennan, Burragorang, and Mrs. Parker, of Hornsby. The funeral takes place this afternoon, (Thursday) at St John's Church of England Cemetery.
