What does this mean on Birth reg.

Never come across this before.

The mother's maiden name was added to the births, marriages and deaths index (BMD) held by the GRO (General Register Office) from the September quarter of 1911

It means that there has been a change of some sort made to the original registration, eg the additon of the father's name or some other such thing like the parents have suddenly noticed the date of birth was wrong.

I found this with one of mine a while ago and queried it with the GRO but they wouldn't tell me what the change was as they could find the certificate!
