Re: Another WARD family

Ok, so now it's just the Muriel mystery.

George died 1958 but not in Ryerson so no death notice. I don't know when Jessie died so again no death notice to mention children.

Also don't know when Ralph died.

Re: Another WARD family

The vicar you mention was Alfred George Welchman. Like you, I thought he used 2 initials "A" and "W" and that his surname began with "E" but he signed as A. Welchman, what we thought was his second initial was the first letter of his surname ie "W".

I acknowledge, and am grateful for, the help of Lambeth Palace archive office in solving this mystery for me.

My interest in Alfred is that he annotated a letter concerning the will of my great grandfather who was killed on the Somme in 1918. Like most soldiers it is assumed he wrote his will in his paybook which was lost. The war office required some evidence about the contents of his will before the estate could be finalised. My great grandmother said he had told her not to worry because he had left everything to her in his army will. Her sister wrote that he had said the same thing to her. Alfred Welchman as vicar and a man of standing who knew the family said their evidence, presented in February 1919, was reliable. The war office accepted this and the estate was released in her favour.

Hope this is interesting to you.
