I still can't find it in the film of the registers.

Wonder where they got a copy to film and transcribe?

Re: James WARD & Emma PRITCHARD

Hi Dave,
I re-read this thread and a few comments popped out at me.

I suspect that the Mellifonts/Mellefonts were the same people and originally came from Kinsale... some time back I found a website that showed the 148 acres owned by James Mellifont in 1641

https://mellifont.wordpress.com/2016...prior-to-1641/

If you click on the heading for that page it should take you to the original website and you can conduct your own searches.

1641 - James Mellifont is a strong Catholic and strictly anti-British

https://mellifont.wordpress.com/2013...s-of-kinsdale/

As you observed - by 1800 some pro-British sentiments had emerged and the Mellefont name as been adopted by some.. and around that time my people start appearing in Cork keeping the same (Catholic) spelling Mellifont- in 1799 my GG-Grandfather Patrick is born in Skiddy's Castle Lane in Cork. many records of my family at St Finbarr's Douglas St - (Catholic).
https://mellifont.wordpress.com/2013...ont-1799-1890/

Of course none of this helps you with James Ward... but it may be interesting trivia relating to the Mellifont/Mellefont name.
best regards
Phil

Re: James WARD & Emma PRITCHARD

Thanks Phil.

Earliest I have is a Walter:

Faulkner's Dublin Journal Obituary 15 Jul 1780

married to an Alice with a son John baptised 27 Aug 1749 Waterford and John buried 19 Dec 1819 St. Mary Shandon, Cork.

John married Ann AGAR (variations)

Marriage Licence Bond was given in 1778 for the marriage of John Mellifont, then aged 29, and Anne Egar.

I have 9 children for them including on my line John William born 1798.

In Cork Directory 1828 John William listed as a Victualler of Blarney Lane. He was also described as a victualler at the baptism of his daughter Sarah Jane in 1838. Also in 1858 at the marriage of daughter Anne.

3rd daughter of John Moorhead of Clarence St, Cork, vintner.
St. Anne Shandon Parish Record:
John William Mellefont & Sarah Moorehead by License the 6 Dec 1825 Richard Lee

The 'Cork Constitution' of Thursday, 8 December, 1825, reported "Married on Monday morning by the Rev. Mr. Lee, Mr John William MELLEFONT of Gournabrasher [Gurranabraher], to Sarah, third daughter of Mr. J. MOORHEAD, Clarence Street."

John William was buried 22 Oct 1847 St. Mary Shandon, Cork.

Sarah MOORHEAD (variations) baptised 16 Sep 1804 St. Anne Shandon, Cork.

I have 10 children for them including on my line Anne:

St. Anne Shandon Parish register:
Anne daughter of John and Sally Mellifont [could be Mellefont] born 7th Dec 1831
Priv Bap 14th Dec 1831 - John - Victualler [father] & William [?]

I've been lucky that lots of the St. Anne and St. Mary Shandon records have survived. Date of birth as well as date of baptism.

Dave

I scanned the film of Volume 37 again today at the library and can't find the 1851 marriage of James WARD and Emma PRITCHARD.

Can we find the church from the IGI batch numbers? M310279, M003874

Clicking on one gives marriage all over NSW so not confined to one church. Clicking the other just has New South Wales, Australia.

The record exists because it's been filmed twice but it's not in the NSW BMD index.
