Where can I search now?

Trying to find my wife's G Gmother. She was in Leamington Spa up to 1936 then no trace till she turns up in Somerfield Hospital Birmingham in 1952 where she died in 1955 aged 93. What records are there that I can search to look for her in the intervening 20 year gap? It seems to be easier to find info for 1500 - 1800 than 1940's and 1950's

Re: Where can I search now?

Hello and to the site.

There are very few records available now for that period. Many records have a 100-year cut off date under Privacy Acts.

Re: Where can I search now?

Hi Dave,

Yes that is what we have found. The Hospital records for the period we wanted have been accidentally destroyed, the creed register for the period exists but is under a 100 year restriction. However we put in an application to view it and it was granted so we could confirm the person was my wife's G-Gmother. We just have this 20 yr gap we can't fill and even if we were still to be "above ground", the 1931 census got destroyed and the 1941 census was never taken so its the end of that road I think.

Re: Where can I search now?

Depending on how much your willing to spend .. the 1939 National ID card might be of some help. If they dont find one you do not get a refund.
"There is a charge for this - 42 - and data will only be released for individuals who have died and are now recorded as deceased"

Basic facts about the 1939 National Identity Card

Taken on the night of Friday 29th September 1939.

Details recorded for each person were:

Residence
Name
Sex
Date of birth
Marital status
Occupation
If member of armed forces or reserves

More information on the cards on the above link.
