Thomas & Jane(nee. Brown) King family. Oxfordshire.

This family should be a bit easier, with the Oxfordshire records coming online.

Thomas King(1772-1862) married Jane Brown(1779-1841) @ Towersey, Oxfordshire.

p.o.b's may say, Towersey, Buckinghamshire(as it's one of those villages that changes to Bucks, from Oxfordshire, or bandit country, as I call it).

Some Oxfordshire BMD's will show as Wycombe district, just to confuse the issue.

I do have Parish regs for Towersey, Marriages up to 1837, burials up to 1951, and baptisms up to 1886. How cock eyed is that.
The civil parish was transferred to Oxfordshire in 1993.

Children, baptised Towersey.
John 1801.
Sally 1803.
George 1806.
William 1810.
Amelia 1812 - 1894. (Done).
Jane 1814-1822. (Done).
Rachel 1816. (Done)
Elizabeth 1818 - 1887. (Done)
Emma 1820.

Can't find anything re John or William. They don't seem to appear in any Census and there are too many deaths to try and pick one out.

They seem to be having Williams children baptized as early as 1822 in Towersey.

Able, baptized 1822. d.1822.
James 1824.
Rachel 1826. d.1828.
Thomas 1829.
William 1834. d.1837.
William (abt 3 years old), 1843.
Caroline 1843.
Henry 1846.

I'll check for burials of Able, Rachel, Thomas & William. (EDIT:). Yes, all buried, and all children of Joseph & Sarah Williams.

Obviously they had others of the same name in later years.

Re: Thomas & Jane(nee. Brown) King family. Oxfordshire.

Son of Joseph, and Sarah, William Williams 1840, Towersey, marries Hannah Green @ Cuddington in 1864.

Hannah Williams(b1838, dies in 1872 Towersey, and is buried there.

William Williams marries a Sarah . Births suggest a maiden name of Smith.

For the life of me, I cannot find a marriage for William Williams to a Sarah Smith.

in the 1911 census, her details are c1840 @ Diddlebury, Shropshire.

There are two possible candidates in Diddlebury, Shropshire.

All I can think of, is the fact she was married before and married under that name.

William Williams dies in Swindon, but was buried in Towersey in 1924, (of Swindon), where he was in 1911 census. Wife, Sarah Williams/Smith, remained in Towersey in 1911. with daughter Annie Williams.

So where and when did William Williams get married for a second time, between 1872 & 1876 ish.

Frances Williams was born 1876 Towersey.

Plus siblings, Annie, Herby(Herbert), John, Albert & Horace.

Or have I got my wires crossed again.

Re: Thomas & Jane(nee. Brown) King family. Oxfordshire.

In the 1881 and 1891 Censuses Sarah gives pob as Sutton Hill, Shropshire.
I have found the following baptism at Diddlebury

29 Sep 1839 Sarah daughter of John and Sarah Smith. Abode Sutton Hill

The only marriage I can see for a William Williams and a Sarah Smith is Jun 1873 Woolwich 1d 1246

Unfortunately, without the certificate it is impossible to know if this is the right one. It does fit with daughter Annie's birth being registered 1874.

Re: Thomas & Jane(nee. Brown) King family. Oxfordshire.

I've found Sarah Smith in 1841 & 1851, with John,c1793. Diddlebury & Sarah, c1798, Diddlebury.

Still no marriage, except the one you found. No 1861 or 1871 census found for Sarah Smith.

Re: Thomas & Jane(nee. Brown) King family. Oxfordshire.

Can't find Sarah in 1861 but in 1871 there is a Sarah Smith aged 30 working as a servant for a family by the name of Griffen in Wolverhampton. Pob is given as Diddlebury.
