Talking robert smith casterton victoria

Im looking if i can find out to see who my ggg grandfathers parents are.

My ggg grandfather was Robert Smith b. 1822 Glasgow Scotland & died 1899 Casterton Victoria.

According to his death certificate he spent 44 years in victoria & 7 years before that in Tasmania (convict maybe?).

Cant find a marraige certificate between him & my ggg grandmother assuming they never married

Re: robert smith casterton victoria

Hi Nathaniel,
Can you give date of Robert's death please. - is there any info in Marriage section regarding years married etc?

just working on your Robert Smith's death cert means he arrived around 1848 in Tasmania and 1855 in Vic - but that is only going on what the informant knew of his details..

There is a Robert Smith who was convicted at Glasgow 29 Sept 1841 and got 10 yrs arrived Tasmania 1841 on ship "Eden" (2 ) on a Ticket of Leave on the Tasmania Convict Muster for 1849.

Convict Transport Register has voyage date as 12 March 1842 to Tasmania.

Rachel Smith died 1920 - do you have her death cert?

SMITH Given names Rachael Event Death Father's Evans James Mother's maiden name Unknown (Unknown) Reg. year1920 Reg. no1894

regards Val

Val
Robert died 22 July 1899
I havent been able to find a marraige cert

His death says he had lived in vic for 40 years & lived in TAS for 7 years & been married for 44 years.

Going by that he may have come over to tas before 1852

Rachael death shows she had always lived in vic

Re: robert smith casterton victoria

Marraige column says married to Rachael evens for 44 years.
Cant make out informant.

Children are;

Sarah 33
James 31
Martha - 29
Maggie (margaret) - 27
Robert - 25
John - dead
Mary ann - dead

They also had
Arthur b. 1880
Julia Ann b. 1866
Unnamed female 1882 - 1882.

From what i can tell all of them apart from martha, maggie, james, robert where raised by rachels sister.

Also mary ann wasnt biologically Roberts
