Re: Henderson from Wick, Caithness

Thanks for your reply. The family oral tradition suggests thar Annie's brother, therefore Sinclairina's son, George emigrated but came back for World War One. It is quite possible that George, born in 1881 is the one i am looking for. There are 2 George Hendersons in the Commonwealth War Graves record with 1/5 Seaforths, 1 is recorded as "A native of Halkirk" but the dates of birth don't match. I may be at fault in assuming that he served with the Seaforths.

On a different note did Donald move to Legerwood in the Borders, near Earlston, if so I met him and knew him as "Uncle Dan" in the 1960s as he was was trying to trace his sister. Unfortunately my Gran had died by then but I do remember meeting him.

George

Re: Henderson from Wick, Caithness

Hi George,

I never met Donald but you are in the right area of Scotland so it would be him. His wife was still alive when I met my husband.

The George who died 13 Nov 1916 was the son of James and Ann of West Dunnet so you can stroke him off. Do we know where George emigrated to and do we know for sure he came back for the war?

I was trying to find George yesterday and will keep looking.

Re: Henderson from Wick, Caithness

Another who died that day named George Henderson was the son of David and Adamina Henderson of Dunnet, Thurston and a native of Halkirk.

Did your mother know if he was married. I asked where he emigrated to as there are a number in foreign regiments named George Henderson who died in the WW1

Re: Henderson from Wick, Caithness

I do not know know if he was married and as yet do not know where he emigrated to. Sorry this is not much help. Also the family grave is the Malcolm grave so there is little help there apart from from Annie being mentioned as David's wife. Once the school term finishes next week I intend to spend a day in the Scottish records Office at Register House and will try to unover more information.

I'm also keen to get any information regarding her siblings and ancestors.

Happy to exchange a GEDCOM file.

Thanks in advance,

Bradley
Hi Bradley, I am also a great grandson of Margaret Henderson, Frances Dunne (Nee Hudson) was my grand mother.
