Re: 1913 NSW Electoral Roll - NEWTON

Thanks Val.

1918 is Annie but not sure about a death for John that's why I included him with a ? for 1913.

Seems to be no Death notice for Annie.

1909 death not in Ryerson.

Qld. Marriage 16 Nov 1865/C0601 Newton John - Harvey Annie Smith

John Newton b 1830 Trowbridge Wiltshire to Isaac & Elizabeth Newton nee Denning – baptised 20 June 1830

Isaac Newton 42 – carpenter - family all b in county = yes, Eliza 43, George 19, Sarah 16, William 12, John 11, Thomas 9, Ethel 4, James 3.

The North Australian Thu 4 Feb 1864
During the severe thunderstorm on Friday, the 22nd instant. Mrs. Newton, the wife of John Newton, carpenter, residing in Warwick, whilst in the act of pouring some tea from a bright tin tea pot, was struck by lightning and instantaneously killed. The poor woman was far advanced in pregnancy, and leaves a husband and six young children to deplore her loss. An inquest was held the next day, when the verdict returned was according to the circumstances — Accidentally killed by a flash of lightning. The funeral procession was attended by the officers and members of the Court of Forresters Rose of Denmark, which has lately been established in this town, and of which her husband is a member, all being present except those prevented by sickness. There is also another calamity to record, and that is the death of the Warwick Mail whose demise took place on Saturday last, not from press of business but from pressure of another kind.

John remarried 16 Nov 1865 Warwick to Annie Smith Harvey – house of Duncan McLeod – and they had 11 children = 17 children all up..

John’s death on Tree has 3 July 1909 Rookwood Asylum – death registered at Granville - should be easy to check..

seems John was not a nice person to be around -

Re: 1913 NSW Electoral Roll - NEWTON

Thanks Val.

Something is a bit odd. We have looked at this family previously and I've seen that second newspaper article so either we missed something last time or I didn't update my tree.

Re: 1913 NSW Electoral Roll - NEWTON

It's ok Val.

1913 NSW Electoral Roll - 1913 CANTERBURY - CROYDON PARK POLLING-PLACE
NEWTON Annie Smith, Wentworth-street, domestic duties
NEWTON Eunice Gordon, Wentworth-street, domestic duties

I have failed to enter some details into my tree but most of what you found in England is new.

The struck by lightning is new.

Don't know about Rookwood Asylum being easy to check.

Re: 1913 NSW Electoral Roll - NEWTON

Sorry Val.

A lot was found on a previous topic but none of it was in my tree. I forgot or whatever to get back to the topic and then enter it all into my tree.

You did find some new stuff.

I'm planning a trip to Kingswood one day before the year is out. I have some films of convict records to look up that are not part of the set at the State Library.

I will have to search this site for other references to Rookwood Asylum as I know there are others in my tree who ended up there.
