Birth Records in England

As I am looking for any possible leads to Abraham Taylor I have come across a person that could be his child. How do I know for certain that this is the right person when it doesn't show the parents names.

I found on ancestry.ca a record for Mary Ann Elizabeth Taylor born 1860. I can order the record but I would like to confirm the parents before doing so. Is there another way for me to find this information out? Again thank you for any assistance.

Info found on ancestry:

Re: Birth Records in England

I think this Abraham Taylor married a Mary Ann Ferriman in 1859.@ St.Bottolph, London.

The family appear to be in London, up to 1891 census, as far as I can see. Apart from 'your' Mary Ann Taylor, who is not with the family in 1881 census.

There is a this marriage.

Mary Ann Elizabeth Taylor
Est birth abt 1861
Age: 24
Spouse-George Mackintosh Keightley. aged 22
1 Aug 1885
Parish-Holy Trinity, Mile End Old Town. Tower Hamlets
Father -Abraham Taylor. Occuption - Engineer.
Spouse Father: Crispin George Keightley

Parish Register.

Death.

Mary A E Keightley.
Birth-abt 1861
Date of Regi Dec 1942
Age at Death: 81
Reg district: Staines
County: Middlesex
Vol- 3a

Re: Birth Records in England

Steve this is what I know to be true so far:
My Great Grandfather - Abraham Taylor Birth 27 October 1857 in Mile End Old Town, London, England Death 7 November 1940 in North Bay, Nipissing, Ontario, Canada
married Eliza Jane Sproxton Munt.

Abraham Taylor - Great Great Grandfather - Birth abt. 1837 in Shoreditch, Middlesex, England
Mary Ann Monks - Great Great Grandmother - Birth abt 1839 in Bishopsgate, Middlesex, England

I have come across the Mary Ann Ferriman and a couple of people that had her and my great grandfather in their family tree. What I am trying to figure out is did the Mary Ann Monks pass away and Abraham married Mary Ann Ferriman.

The others that I have contacted had a great uncle Abraham that emigrated to Canada and the names of the others are all matching. However they have Mary Ann Ferriman listed as his wife. I have Found marriage certificates to prove both . So very coincidental to say the least. So with that being said I am now looking for all those that I believe are associated with Abraham Taylor of 1837 and also a death record of Mary Ann Monks to see what year she passed away.

Re: Birth Records in England

I'm afraid your biggest problem is going to find the right Mary Ann Taylor birth as I have found several listed in London at the same time!

If you could fine the correct one the certificate would have the mothers maiden name.

Re: Birth Records in England

Ok, the Mary Ann Elizabeth Taylor birth you suggested is wrong, or is it. But the family that I found could be correct if Abraham married Mary Ann Monk.

Abraham Taylor(Occ.Braidmaker)Batchelor, married Mary Ann Monk(Spinster), 25 Dec 1865 @ Christ Church with St Mary and St Stephen, Spitalfields.

Father of groom - Abraham Taylor, Occ Braidmaker.
Father of bride - Daniel (Ignatious)Monks. (Second christian is hard to read).

Witnesses - Henry Walker & Elizabeth Ann Walker.

You need to narrow down the births.

Re: Birth Records in England

Pete
Your are fast.
So I am thinking it would be relatively safe to order this birth record that I found on Ancestry. What I am trying to prove in all of this is the possiblity that the Abraham Taylor might have been married twice. I am also trying to locate a death record for Mary Ann Monks which might help to prove or disapprove my theory.

Name: Mary Ann Elizabeth Taylor
Registration Year: 1860
Registration Quarter: Oct-Nov-Dec
Registration district: Shoreditch

Re: Birth Records in England

Audrey,
If the marriage of Abraham Taylor to Mary Ann Ferriman is correct then the birth of Mary Ann Elizabeth Taylor should have Ferriman as the mothers maiden name.
Otherwise I think you will have great difficulty in tracing the death of Mary Ann Taylor as there are so many! (Taylor appears to be a common name)

Re: Birth Records in England

Hi Audrey,
On Familysearch I have found the marriage of Abraham Taylor to Mary Ann Ferriman :-

Mary Ann Ferriman

mentioned in the record of Abraham Taylor and Mary Ann Ferriman

Name Abraham Taylor
Spouse's Name Mary Ann Ferriman
Event Date 12 Sep 1859
Event Place St. Botolph Bishopsgate, London, England
Marital Status Single
Spouse's Marital Status Single

As you can see it says that both are single which would tend to indicate that this is a different Abraham Taylor - although you can never be sure as they can tell porkies on marriage.
