Re: Robert TRENCH

Thanks Geoff.

That seems the most likely Robert.

Marriage 1890 St Andrew Midlothian for a Mary TRENCH but not in FS.

Death Mary GILL (WEST) Inveresk, Midlothian 1914 Age 76

Don't know why they farmed off Alexander to grandparents for 25 years. Seems neither Robert nor Mary died before 1881.

Re: Robert TRENCH

It's Mary GILL.

Now there is no GILL - TRENCH/WEST marriage.

Ok, I'm lost. The trees have no marriage and no death for Mary.

So there must be another Mary WEST born abt 1838.

One in Angus and one in Banff.

It seems there is no sign of Mary after the birth of Alexander in 1857.

I'm sure it's my Mary who married in Borthwick in 1855. Here she is with family in 1851:

1851
Piece: SCT1851/674 Place: Borthwick -Midlothian Enumeration District: 6
Civil Parish: Borthwick Ecclesiastical Parish, Village or Island: Clayhouses
Folio: 760 Page: 11 Schedule: 41
Address: 12 Clayhouses
Surname First name(s) Rel Status Sex Age Occupation Where Born Remarks
WEST Geo Head M M 36 Cooper Midlothian - Temple
WEST Grace Wife M F 36 Fife - Inverkeithing
WEST Catharine Dau - F 13 Scholar Midlothian - Borthwick
WEST Mary Dau - F 13 Scholar Midlothian - Borthwick
WEST Eliza Dau - F 11 Scholar Midlothian - Temple
WEST Grace Dau - F 9 Scholar Midlothian - Temple
WEST William Son - M 7 At Home Midlothian - Temple
WEST Anne Dau - F 3 Midlothian - Temple

The trees correctly show a death for sister Catharine in NSW.

Re: Robert TRENCH

Though everything points to her, but nothing after the marriage.

I even tried looking at 'West' trees some don't even have her on them, those that do call her Mary Ann... Catharine is there and in NSW.

Trying French again is a bit more productive..

SP:
1855 FRENCH ROBERT H WEST MARY BORTHWICK /MIDLOTHIAN 674/00 0009

Re: Robert TRENCH

Thanks Geoff.

Interesting that IGI has the right name and SP doesn't:

Robert H. TRENCH & Mary WEST
24 Aug 1855 Borthwick, Midlothian, Scotland
Batch: M116741

If we can rule this one out then it seems there is no death for my Mary in Scotland.

Death Mary GILL (WEST) Inveresk, Midlothian 1914 Age 76

Dave

Re: Robert TRENCH

This one is interesting because of the age:

1861 FRENCH ROBERT HUTCHINS [no mother name] M 27 ST GEORGE EDINBURGH CITY/MIDLOTHIAN 685/01 0184

I'm not sure how many characters there are in the name field but I know middle names get truncated if they won't fit.
