Hi Lindsey

Welcome to the board, i was born in Staffordshire, always found it an interesting place, though i didn't live there very long.

The best place to start your tree is with you and go backward. Write down all you know about your parents and grandparents etc. Have a chat to them as well see what family stories you can gather. Your parents might have some certificates (birth etc) that can give leads to other family members. Another thought is see if any of the men and women served in the 1st or 2nd world wars and you maybe able to approach (not sure who in the UK) i think it is the war archives for a copy of their records. Some of this may have a cost. There are also some very good websites out there (as well as all the other lovely helpful people on here who have helped me heaps!!) www.familysearch.org and www.familyhisotryonline.co.uk. Your local library may also have geneology information of various kinds, there are lots more, if you put some of the surnames you are researching on this site with a few dates, someone might be able to help.

Hope this helps start you off.

Smee

Re: Introduction

Hi Lindsey
Join the club. I'm a good many years older than you and I still can"t find out about my past rellies. But I'm not giving up. I hope to pass on any information to my grandchildren so they will know where and what they come from.
Happy hunting.

Stan

Hi,

My name is Jo-Anne. I was born in Wales in 1973, and moved to Sweden in 1998 with my husband Andrew. We have three children.
I work as a Montessori teacher here, and my other half is a design engineer.
I have been researching the family tree for the past year, and have hit a brick wall with the research on my grandfather.
Enjoy reading, walking, fishing and listening to music (not all at the same time).

Hi Lindsey, Jo-Anne Welcome both of you to our forum.

isn't that a special way to teach children? I have heard some good things about that.

Don't worry - we all hit our own brick walls. Stick at it or even have a break and research another ancestor, or even some good people on this forum can help you.

Lindsey, go to our Genealogy FAQ and particularly New to Family History. The article Genealogy - How You Begin is ideal for starters.

Good luck to you both. If at all we can help, let us know.

All the best for the New Year - 2007.

Thanks,
Dave

Exclamation Re: Introduction

Hi, my name is Kath, I`m 53 and have been researching my family history for several years now. I`m a new member and am trying to get used to the site.
My maiden name is Harwood so obviously that was the first I researched. I live in North Wales now but I was brought up in Darwen and Burnley in Lancashire. Most of my family are from these places but as I go further back there are both Scottish and Irish links.
I have two daughters both married and four grandchildren. My oldest grandaughter aged 10 is very interested in what I am doing so hopefully she will continue where I leave off or at least look after my finds and pass them on to future family.
So far I have made myself a member and written this little intro, if you will all excuse me for a while I think I will familiarise myself with the site. Hope to converse with you all soon when hopefully I`ll know what I`m doing(or not)

Re: Introduction

Hi I have just come across this website via search engine, so here I am fully registered and looking somewhat forward to researching my elusive ancestors.

Here is a little bit about me! I was born in Asbourne Derbyshire.. before moving to Buxton in Derbyshire with my mum and dad. I have lived in Nottingham now for over 30 years since I left home or flew the nest so to speak. I have one son who still lives with me.

Hopefully I shall Find the right forums to post any questions or help I may need.

I have found some ancestors but not all, I know my grand-dad was a Farmer, his first wife died in 1909 at the age of 42 and he married my grandma in 1926. His first wife was born in Hollinsclough in Staffordshire in 1867. Most of my rellies will be around the Cheshire Lancashire areas.

Re: Introduction

Hi I'm Julie,

Been plodding along with my family history for a few years.

Have lived in the London area all my life. I have 1 daughter who's getting married in October and 1 son, a cat called Bennie, Chui the tabby went missing last may not to be seen again. He moved out on the Friday and my daughter moved out on the Sunday, perhaps there trying to tell me something.
