Hi Dave, there is a tree in Anc which lists his death as 1868. However, Free MBD have a death for Charles Miller Hughes in 1856 W Dby. perhaps a baby son born in 1855. Angelina remarries in 7.11.1869 to Robt Andrew Thomas. St Johns Tockie Park. Ozn Not much help mate. Did he sail to Australia as a young man??

Checked out the censuses of 1871 and 1881. The children have their stepfather's name of Thomas in 1871 but by 1881 he is a widower and he gives the children their original surname of Hughes.
There are six baptisms of children of Charles and Angelina on Ancestry. Charles Miller Hughes was a sail maker on the first three then from 1865 he was a mariner/master mariner. (on his marriage cert 1854 he is a sail maker & his father Isaac a captain so possibly sailing with his father.)
The last child that he and Angelina baptised was Susannah Nicholson Hughes, 6 June 1869. (registered Q2 1869) Then after that is Angelina Sarah Thomas, daughter of Angelina and Robert Andrew Thomas bapt 29 Jan 1871.
So Charles Miller Hughes was still alive second half of 1868 but there is no record of his death in England & Wales. Being a mariner I imagine he was lost at sea or abroad, though I cannot find a mention in newspapers.
The Miller Hughes family crop up several times in Liverpool around that time, mostly as mariners.
Elaine
PS Angelina's 2nd husband, in 1869, was Robert Andrew Thomas. In 1865 Angelina & Charles Miller Hughes baptised a daughter Robina Andrewina Hughes, (first time Charles is down as a mariner). The address given was 203 Park Rd, same address where Robert was living with his mother in 1861. Makes you wonder whether Angelina & Robert are already living together and Charles has already disappeared.
