Emblem Enigma-Help please!

Dear all,

I am a postgraduate at Oxford seeking the family associated with a particular heraldic emblem, found in a Piers Plowman MS of the early 15th century. I have a photograph of the emblem, either heraldic or perhaps a rebus (a visual pun on the family's name or place of origin). It is an eagle, standing with wings outspread, on a low green mound which appears to be criss-crossed with perhaps field boundaries or similar.

The MS, by dialect clues, is probably from somewhere in the West Midlands or southwest of the country.

The image can be accessed via this google docs link

All thoughts and suggestions appreciated!
